Pedestrian Crossings outside all schools in the UK

Hello,
I'm Rosie and a Mum to three.
Our school does not have a Pedestrian Crossing or a Lollipop person. On the road where our school is situated there are two other schools who also do not have crossings.
The road has become busier and there are far more cars on the roads than ever before.

The procedure to get a crossing near a school is to contact the Local Council.I did this as I am a governor at our school.
I was told by the big boss there that because we had 20mph zones we couldn't have a crossing,as he said we can't have both??
Most people ignore the 20mph zone and park on the yellow lines!

I was also told by other parents who has asked for a Crossing that a child needs to be injured before they would consider one. WHAT!!!

I then went to my MP,who wrote to the Council
I then went to the local press and still we have no crossing!

The Local Council follow a national criteria and if we don't fall within that criteria-then tough luck unless a child dies or is injured.

So I want to change the law at ACT level.I want all Local Councils to have to provide a Crossing outside a school.
Why should we beg the Council when our childrens lives are at stake.

I started a campaign on Twitter and the internet.
Please can you support .We have a petition .If you go to www.kidsxsafely.org.uk and sign the petition and if you are on Twitter please follow @kidsxsafely.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this.I'd also like to hear about your schools, whether they have crossings ,if what what type.
We have found that Puffins would be the best.

The Govt want our kids to be more healthy, walk more but are not providing the crossings to make it safe.

Any thoughts would be great and Thank you x

I am in the same position myself, just written to the council about the fact that outside my daughters school, there is nothing to stop or slow down traffic. Her school is a complex with 2 others, so there are around 600 children trying to get across this very busy, straight, fast flowing road every morning. The cars hurtle along at well over 30mph, and trying to cross with three children aged 4 and under is extremely stressful and feels very dangerous.
I have spoken to my daughters school, and the school have tried numerous times to request a crossing, and always been turned out, I can't believe this, one of the school governors actually works for the highways agency at the local council! Yet, still nothing has been done. I intend to take this as far as I can. Maybe the tabloids would be interested, these councils waste money left right and centre, yet where the money should be spent, you have to fight tooth and nail to get anything done. It's not right.
