Is my car insured?

I have just bought another car, and my old insurance policy runs out next month. The policy I have is full comp which allows me to drive other cars, however I have just phoned the insurance company to ask for a quote and they have an admin fee of £25 switching vehicles over will cost me £58 (seem a lot for one month additional cover).

What I am asking is, is this car I have just bought insured, as my policy states that I can drive other cars then surely I will just be able to amend the details at renewal and therefore not pay the additional amount now as buying the car and tax has cleared me out.

Thanks in advance.

Technically yes, you are insured third party only to drive the car. However (and someone in car insurance may clarify this) I think the vehicle needs to be insured to be legal.

Thanks soupie, contacted the insurance directly and spoke to a very nice man, who was very helpful. He said he would waive their fee and do it for me for £20. Who says flirting doesn't get you anywhere

Hi Breeze clad to see you got sorted. Can't beleive your company charges for changing vehicles though. I've never come across that before. We are with direct line and currently swapped the car with only a few weeks to go on the policy. They changed the details no problem, no extra charge even though the new policy was more expensive and then when collecting the car was delayed by a couple of days offered to insure both cars fully comp for those days at no extra cost. Was very impressed. AA insurance are brill too.

Also discovered that although your policy does cover you 3rd party to drive any other vehicle this only counts if the vehicles also has its own policy. I never knew that before. Ooops.

Thanks Katherine, I will try Direct line at renewal. Glad I managed to get it sorted then.
