Got to go pick up dh from Gatwick airport in the morning. We have been having a bit of trouble losing water from the car. I want to check it before I leave tomorrow. Had a quick look this evening but can't see any maximum markings on the plastic container that you pour the water into. Do I fill it to the top/half way????
Sorry I'm crap when it comes to car maintenance.
TIA

Is this for the windscreen washer? If so, just fill it up.

Soupdragon · 29/05/2005 22:18

If not, I have no diea but would assume you fill it to the top because there are no markings.

SPARKLER1 · 29/05/2005 22:18

No - the radiator I think

I've only ever filled up radiators on my od car (1979 escort!) and that was a "fill up to the top" job. Well, just below the top.

Soupdragon · 29/05/2005 22:20

Fill it up mostly to the top and put a 2L bottle of water in your boot for emergencies?

SPARKLER1 · 29/05/2005 22:21

It's the plastic container under the bonnett - I believe that leads to the radiator doesn't it? FFS I am so crap. LOL

I tell you I'm all for equal opportunities for male and female but when it comes to cars I'm gonna leave to the male in my life

No idea. In an old car, to fill the radiator up you filled the radiator up, not a plastic container

I only ever fill up the washer bottle (a large plastic container).

If there are no markings on it, just fill it up. GO on, you know you want to...

SPARKLER1 · 29/05/2005 22:25

Thanks Soupdragon. I appreciate your help. Where's all the men on here when you need them eh? LOL

Does the bottle have a picture on the lid?

Janh · 29/05/2005 22:28

Sparkler, there are probably 2 plastic bottles, one an overflow for the radiator and one for the washers.

Washers will have a "windscreen wiper" sort of image on the lid (I think)(My washer bottle is in the top RH corner as you look under the bonnet)

Radiator won't have windscreen image - dunno what it will have, I have a Zafira which is similar to Astra but have never topped up water so haven't looked. Just fill it to the top!

SPARKLER1 · 29/05/2005 22:28

LOL - you sound as good as me!! I don't know. Too dark to go and look now.

Defo not the windscreen washer box. I know that one. I know which box to put water in for radiator but just worried about filling it up too much.

Shall I go out with a torch and have a look at mine?

Janh · 29/05/2005 22:32

Or I could get my handbook out of the car and read that? (Have you got one?)

Soupdragon · 29/05/2005 22:32

I don't think you can fill it up too much tbh.

SPARKLER1 · 29/05/2005 22:32

No Jan. Thanks for offering though. I shall just chuck some in tomorrow and take a bottle with me just in case.
Thanks for your help guys. I really appreciate it. Must go get some sleep. Need to leave the house at 6.30am!
