mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 11:39

sparklesandwine · 15/09/2009 22:42

I'm trying to stay off the puter a bit really as i've gots tons to get on with at home - i like just popping on here when i can

i might pop onto scuttle though and say hi

i'm just trying to get ideas on here for cutting our shopping bills down...............i hate budgeting!

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 22:45

get all the buy one get one free items ! we always stock up on baked beans when they are 4 for a £1 instead of 68p per tin [ branstons] and we also have a stock of toilet rolls got on offer, and tea bags on offer too! i love bargains and like everyone else we have to watch the money

sparklesandwine · 15/09/2009 23:16

tis cock M

dp and i could live on beans on toast, pasta and rice but the dc need a bit more variety!!

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:29

get some meat and loads of veg and make a big pot of stew ,very healthy with all the veg in and will go far with some spuds or dumplings.

mummylin2495 · 15/09/2009 23:31

and the kids could also have jacket spuds with some cheese and beans, carbonara, which is only pasta with bacon bits ,thats filling, tasty and good.sausage casserole is another cheap dish.

sparklesandwine · 16/09/2009 09:17

morning M

mummylin2495 · 16/09/2009 11:32

morning sparkles ,how you gettin on with your budgeting ? i dont envy you one bit ,it must be really hard.I was one of six and i know back than my mum used to struggle. You would think that all these years on no-one should be like that any more.

mummylin2495 · 16/09/2009 12:42

still trying to think of meals that are posible to de quite cheaply but are nourishing !! .home made fish cakes are nice if you have some left over mash from the day before, you only need to add a tin of salmon or tuna and mix it together.,cheese and potatoe pie is nice with grilled bacon, and very filling.

sparklesandwine · 16/09/2009 14:49

We're not struggling particuarly M, we just need to save some money for Poppy's Birthday next month , DS2's in December and of course christmas - its an expensive time from now on in so need to rein it in a bit to have some 'spare' cash for those things

sparklesandwine · 16/09/2009 14:51

I've actually just sat down and made a list of everything we would use in a typical month and worked out what sort of quantities we would need and have also trawled MN meal plan threads and made a long list of meals to choose from

my plan is to look at what we have in then look at the list of meals and go from there - i've bought myself a whiteboard for the kitchen!!

mummylin2495 · 16/09/2009 15:22

i know how you feel sparkles ,i have 4 birthdays in december and its often a struggle about then because of xmas. And i always like to buy birthday and xmas gifts ,not lump them together.

sparklesandwine · 16/09/2009 15:50

mummylin2495 · 16/09/2009 16:32
