Does anyone know anything about telework. There is an organisation called TCA. Has this worked for any of you?

I used to be a foreign correspondent. Now I follow West Africa from a distance and work from home. I have a heroic nanny and a really great deal as dh is in a similar line of work but I find it really hard in some ways as I'm a bit of an outsider both at professional events and playgroup events. Last week I edited a publication on the living room floor to the accompaniment of Thomas the Tank Engine in order to be around miserable kids with mild measles (despite MMR vaccine, well at least they're not autistic) while dh spent business trip in luxury resort hotel. Normally I at least get to retreat to my office.
One thing about being self-employed with kids is my parents refuse to recognise that I work and merrily invite themselves over mid-week. But I'm sure I'm not alone in all this, and I really wouldn't give the kids back in exchange for the stream of pointless corporate memos that used to come my way.

Hi all... Message mainly for Tigermoth (sorry, don't have your direct email details), but please anyone with any details please reply (direct: [email protected], or post here).

WANTED: Advertising Agency
Type: Retail (Consumer)
Specialist Area: Women/Children

Can anyone help. Where do I even start looking for an agency like this? I would love to be able to find an agency that employs parents with young children - as that is for whom the product is aimed at.

Many thanks... Nick.

Hi Babynikck - I'm here. I am a little confused, sorry!
Are you looking for an advertsiing agency that specialises in women' and children's retail advertising, or an agency that employes parents with young children? or both?

Please can you post more info here?

Babynick · 11/01/2002 22:10

Hi Tigermoth

Are you looking for an advertsiing agency that specialises in women' and children's retail advertising, or an agency that employes parents with young children? or both?

BOTH ideally, as parents with children (under 12's) I feel would be in the best position to assist in coming up with good advert copy and marketinging ideas for the product. Most of our staff are parents, and now that we have grown from being a small business to a medium sized business I feel the need to seek outside assistance from a advertising agency to better promote our product to the marketplace (you never know, you may see our ads on Mumsnet soon!).

Any suggestions for where to look for a small, family orientated ad agency? Thanks, Nick.

Hi Babynick, regarding your question, I will email you through mumsnet in the next couple of days.

manky · 14/01/2002 22:28

Babynick, don't know if I can help but used to work as a copywriter with large insurance organisation - gave up full-time work when I became pregnant with my second - and now hope to start working on a freelance basis. I work from home so if I can be of any help...

Alli · 15/01/2002 14:55

I hope mumsnet don't mind but this has triggered something I have been given at work but I don't have a clue how to tackle. I work for a construction company and have been asked to produce (for want of a better word) a booklet (about 30pp long) to distribute to 4-9 year olds in schools on health and safety on building sites. It needs designing and copywriting and my skills don't quite extend to those areas! If there is anyone interested could they e-mail me on [email protected]

Lil · 16/01/2002 13:35

why would you need to target 4-9 year olds? I mean what would they be doing on a building site anyway???

Reminds me of something I read this week in the paper, some legislative bod was complaining that he had counted a ridiculously high number of Health and Safety regs. being broken in episodes of Bob the builder! Included hanging out of open windows etc. Are you trying to counteract this?!

TigerMoth1 · 16/01/2002 14:18

Welcome to the whacky world of school outings, Lil!

Twink · 16/01/2002 14:32

Lil, it's because unfortunately, but not unsurprisingly, young children see them as exciting places with lots to climb on, holes to hide in, dumper trucks, diggers etc etc and although you might hold up your hands in horror that a carer might let their charges anywhere near them, real life isn't like that - kids do play around them and do get badly mashed, dented and in some cases, killed. Construction companies do have a responsibility to adequately fence off their sites but a group of 8 year olds (for example) can be very determined.

Alli · 16/01/2002 16:56

Hi Lil

I'm doing this on behalf of the Community Care Manager of my company and so part of her remit - I think Twink has pretty much hit the nail on the head (no pun intended).
