er no

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 11/08/2009 17:42

No, no and a thousand times no.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/08/2009 17:43

yes, and if it was my cat or dog I would probably come home

but not for the bunny-wunny (sorry bunny )

castille · 11/08/2009 17:43

No. No way.

Our cats vanished a week into our holiday and if we'd known, the DDs would have been distraught and insisted on going straight home to look for them, missing a week of sun and fun. So no, definitely not.

Itsjustafleshwound · 11/08/2009 17:44

No - not like insurance will pay for you to cut your holiday short and there is b*gger all you can do about it in Spain ...

Tillyscoutsmum · 11/08/2009 17:45

Nope...

I remember our pet rabbit meeting the same grisly end whilst my mother was in hospital having a fairly major op. We went to see her just as she was coming round from the general anaesthetic and had been told not to say anything. My grandad unfortunately blabbed immediately . Tact was never his strong point

GrimmaTheNome · 11/08/2009 17:45

Certainly not. What purpose would it serve? Sorrow for bunny can wait and not spoil the holiday.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/08/2009 17:45

how did it happen?

poopscoop · 11/08/2009 17:46

is it your rabbit or one you are looking after?

wannaBe · 11/08/2009 17:46

not sure tbh.

I think I would probably want to know, but I wouldn't tell ds until we got home so as not to spoil the holiday for him.

We're going on holiday this weekend and tbh I'm afraid that my 14 year old dog who is currently unwell may die while we're away. If she does then I think that I do want to know.

Are/were you looking after someone's rabbit that has been eaten?

stleger · 11/08/2009 17:46

DD1's friend was minding our goldfish while we were in Italy, and sent a text to say he was swimming a little sideways. DD2 came out with the immortal line 'That bitch has killed my fish'. In fact, with some Interpet Gold he swam again another year. Our holiday was almost ruined though!

wannaBe · 11/08/2009 17:49

lfc you would come home? what for?

I will be devastated when my dog dies, and she was my first guide dog and changed my life, but harsh as this may sound, if she dies while we're away then coming home isn't going to achieve anything is it?

Ponders · 11/08/2009 17:51

& at the bitch comment, stleger! (how old was dd2 at the time?)

Agree with the consensus - would not want to know - especially with such a nasty end

KnickKnack · 11/08/2009 17:52

nope definitely would not even consider it. Explain to them when they get home that you did think about telling them though.

DrNortherner · 11/08/2009 17:56

me and MIL are looking after the bunnies between us. It happened on her watch. She left them in the run overnight (they live next to a golf course so foxes are rife)

Next morning one had lept back into it's hutch, the other one was gone. Wire broken on run, blood on wire and clumps of bunny fur on the lawn....

stleger · 11/08/2009 17:56

(DD2 was 10. I suspect she has seen too many inappropriate telly programmes).

Tillyscoutsmum · 11/08/2009 17:57

Or tell them on their last day so they can "prepare" any dc's without it spoiling their holiday ?

MaybeAfterBreakfast · 11/08/2009 17:57

No.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 11/08/2009 17:59

Definitely no.

poopscoop · 11/08/2009 18:00

can you tell the adults and see if they want you to scurry off to look for similar ones to replace?

ChasingSquirrels · 11/08/2009 18:03

no

Carrotfly · 11/08/2009 18:08

I would.

Strangely enough my neighbours guinea pig has just died. They are on holiday. I was contemplating texting her ... but maybe I wont now.

Oh I dont know ....

snigger · 11/08/2009 18:09

I empathise with your situation, but your thread title is couched in the same terms DD uses to break bad news to me, and I broke out in involuntary giggles.

"Mummy, can you get rings back up from between floorboards?" etc.

In our family we use the old "The rabbit's on the roof" line - I think for me, I'd rather know in advance and take or plan remedial action before I got home, rather than unpack to a cacophony of grief.
