None now. I used to be brilliant before ds but unfortunately that has all gone to pot and I think I am lazier now than I was before. To be honest I get more joy out of spending time with him than doing mundane tasks so my house is falling into complete disaray.

Edgarcat - cleaning and linen change on Sundays, ironing on Mondays for me. Have only started this routine a few weeks ago but it certainly seems more relaxing than the adhoc approach!

lucy123 · 12/05/2003 17:27

I have enough trouble remembering which day of the week it is, never mind doing certian things.

Actually I think it's probably about time to change the linen. Perhaps I do need a routine. I always have a cup of tea on the balcony after getting dd up, dressed, fed etc. does that count?

I should really have papaya shouldn't I?

I have a view of snow-capped mountains too!

But I tend to clean one room in any 1 day too. Just not every day and not the same room on the same day (so laziness rather than a routine).

I've got a list with day routines (make bed, put washing on, etc) and week routines (change bedlinen, etc) impressive huh? Sadly I ignore them all and the place is a tip.

mammya · 12/05/2003 21:36

My only routine is cleaning the flat on mondays, which i started doing a few weeks ago because otherwise i always think "i'll do it tomorrow" and then it gets very rarely done so the place turns v. quickly into a tip. It works for me because my flat is quite small so it can be done, and as I HATE ALL housework at least I've got the rest of the week to be a slob. I also try to do the washing up soon after eating otherwise it can just pile up and up until I have to do it because everything is dirty.

whymummy · 12/05/2003 21:37

my routine is get up have a coffee, look on mumsnet, have a coffee, look on mumsnet,do ds packed lunch, look on mumsnet, wake the children up,give them breakfast, put on noddy on ch 5,look on mumsnet, etc, etc, look on mumsnet, etc, etc,

Sad to say but I also have a little chart that I typed up on my new computer when we got it. It has all the days of the week on it and what I am supposed to do on those days. It started off really well but I've started to slide now. anyway I'll have to change it all as my hours have changed and I can't do my big clean on a Tuesday anymore as I will be working all day. I'm actually supposed to be tidying up big style at the moment as dd's friend is coming round after school tomorrow and I don't want her to go home and tell her mum what a pigsty we live in, lol But there are so many interesting threads on mumsnet that it'll have to wait until I'm finished reading

wigglybitsAKASamboM · 13/05/2003 11:41

Mine

Get up
Play with dd until nanny arrives
Work/mumsnet
Play with dd till bedtime
Cook supper
Sit on sofa and scoff supper and lots of wine
Pass out
Start again...

If only...

hate to admit it but my life wouldn't/doesn't function without routines and rotas. I don't do the laundry on a particular day a week as we've so much the washing machine goes on most days. But I do have a cleaning rota that works on a daily /weekly/monthly basis, depending on chore. And I too change the bed linen on a Friday; finances/paperwork is dealt with on a Thursday etc., etc.,. The moment I stop being so anal my life dissolves into chaos.

Bozza · 13/05/2003 12:07

I thought this was going to be about kid's routines not mother's. Much more interesting edgarcat!

Yes I have routines:
Monday clean all house (hopefully with help from DH).
Tuesday order shopping, water plants.
Wednesday change towels.
Thursday shopping comes, clean kitchen, bathrooms, downstairs floor.
Saturday water plants.
Sunday change towels and bedding, water plants.

Since I have been slacking on watering plants most of them are nearly dead so should soon be able to remove this task. Also am finding towels and bedding no longer fit in washing machine so am considering changing bedding on Fridays instead. Oh the decisions I have to take....

My family think this is unnecessarily organised but I do think that for me it is the best way to see that things get done. Also DH knows this and so can be roped in on the appropriate day.

Bozza · 13/05/2003 12:09

Also laundry/ironing is a daily task for me which is why I try to spread the extra loads a little.

wigglybitsAKASamboM · 13/05/2003 12:10

My ironing routine is as follows

Let ironing pile up until can no longer get in the garage
Call mother and sob hysterically until she offers to come round and do it for me.

54321 · 13/05/2003 12:33

unfortunately my routine since having children is to clean the house before any guests arrive eg hoovering, dusting, etc ... washing/ironing by Friday, changing bedclothes, towels etc by Fridays. If I'm feeling even more like I can't cope than usual then we don't have friends round for a while til I get the energy to get straight again!!!!!!!!!

54321 · 13/05/2003 12:37

Like wigglywotit's method/routine wish I could use it too.

Like Linnet's list I used to have one still come across it now and again.

Keep wishing we had a bigger house but then console myself that it's a good thing we don't as I struggle with this one as it is!

SamboM · 13/05/2003 12:42

Given up on new name and back to boring old one.s

steppemum · 14/05/2003 11:31

Very boring I know, but I do have a routine. Whole house gets cleaned on Monday, Also beds and towels changed, and all the washing done (although i always have to do more later - can anyone explain to me how one small baby can have more washing than 2 grown adults?)
Tuesday, plan meals for the week and shopping
Then for the rest of the week I can relax and pretend I'm organised! (of course I'm a SAHM and only one ds, which does make it easier!)

Ghosty · 14/05/2003 11:38

I wish I had a routine when it came to cleaning the house ... sadly I don't so it is a total mess all the time ... one day DH will leave me as I am not keeping up my side of the bargain ... truth be told I am a lazy old bag and I can't be **sed!
I am rigid about DS' routine however ... always have been ... thanks GF
Oh ... I do have a routine of sorts for me ... not to do with cleaning...
When I get up I check on mumsnet to see what I've missed before DS gets any sustenance or anything!
When I have a shower I wash my hair first, then condition, then wash my body and shave any bits that need shaving.
Then I tone and moisturise and put my make up on (whilst wrapped in a towel)
Then I get dressed, and put 'stuff' on my hair ...
Then I dry my hair.
That is all the routine I do ...
