Found an injured bird - what do I do with it?

This will sound harsh, but it would be kinder to kill it. It won't survive.

ring the RSPCA and they either collect it or you take it to them

Yeh agree with biglips, call the rspca and they will handle it. They no the right people to get it back to health and r-released into the wild.

You could try calling the RSPB too?

By the way, If anyone's reading this who finds a young bird that's fallen out of it's nest, you're not supposed to touch it with your hands because the mother will reject it if it smells of human. You're just supposed to leave it alone and the mother will feed it on the ground apparently. Of course cats might be a problem... I only found this out recently so thought I'd share.

a bird last summer cracked itself into my window. i coujldnt get hold of the RSPCA, or RSPB about it. i think it had a broken neck as it died about an hour later.

put it in a box in the airing cupboard and leave it for an hour or so, if its a baby do not touch it, the parents will be aroundand will feed it. call your local rescue centre or rspb, however unfortunately it might die of shock anyway.

the majority of these animals, both birds and smallish mammals, in this condition will die of shock.

I dont know, i rescued a baby magpie, who had become blown off course and totally confused, he was taken to the vets, who gave him to a wildlife centre. he did very well apparently!

rickman the main thing is to keep it warm, they usually advise that you place the bird in abox in a warm place such as an airing cupboard.
