Second pregnany - same as first?

I need some pregnancy stories on having a second baby. My son is 2 in Aug and we're thinking about having another next spring or summer. My first pregnancy was so easy. (had morning sickness all day, although I was never sick but if I ate it was better!!) I had a home birth like I wanted which, as far as giving birth goes, was brill!
I'd just like to know the chances of my second being the same and easy as the first.

I too had an easy first pregnancy, bit of nausea but no sickness or really any other symptoms.

This one, nearly there, has been more difficult though not that bad really. Again no sickness but I have suffered from insomnia, more backache and heartburn - still not exactly difficult.

For me I was a lot more fit this time and havent' really been to the gym or been swimming at all - that I think has made the difference this time round.

I'd say my 1st 2 pregnancies were very similar - I was extremely tired for most of them, but had no morning sickness. They were both boys. I am now 13 weeks into my 3rd pregnancy, and if anything this is the easiest yet, but still very similar, so I guess it will be a 3rd son .

My 1st child was, by other people's standards, an easy baby (still felt like bloody hard work to me!), and I had lots of people helpfully tell me I wouldn't be so lucky again, but no. 2 was, if anything a bit easier.

Can't say either of my births were as wonderful as yours sounds though - lucky you! So I would say from my experience history can repeat itself & you can have a good time 2 or 3 times in a row, one goos experience does not condem you to misery & suffering next time. Good luck!

I don't know about a 'wonderful' birth, monkey! I did have pethadine and gas and air. My son was an easy baby too, not so easy now though! I think I'll have to keep my fingers crossed and hope it's the same next time round. Thank you.

Monkey - wouldn't bet on it!

3 totally different pregnancies 3 identicals babies (sexwise)
DS1- morning sickness but sick at the same time every day, back ache if i sat for too long but not a difficult pregnancy. Terrible labour, Too much interference. 20 hours with drips, monitors, wires etc. Epidural that they 'forgot' to plug in to the tube in my back. Easy baby. Happy, content and easy going.
DS2- No morning sickness at all, no back ache but I did get tired quicker and sore legs. Better labour 3 hours, no time for pain relief. Again an easy baby but not such and easy toddler into everything!!
DS3 - Tired all the time, heavy muscle pulling pain at the base of belly but nothing terrible. Worst labour of all but not terrible, 14 hours. Gas and Air left to my own devices too much. By the time I managed to find a midwife to ask for pethidine, I was too far dilated to have it!. Harder work than the other 2 but still an easy baby in general. Won't take a bottle like the other 2, prefers mum to dad more than the other 2 etc.
No 2 preganacies/births are the same. Just remember what you get at the end.

Hi,

Well, first pg five years ago was a breeze. I had a bit of morning sickness early on, but only in the evenings and that's about it. I really enjoyed being pg, everyone said how well I looked etc. Labour was brilliant too - followed my birth plan to the letter - until the last minute, when it all ended with an emergancy cs.

Second time (dd 11 weeks old) pg was a nightmare. I had awful morning sickness all day long, couldn't face eating anything and had to force myself to drink water. I had awful itching from five months, to the extent that I gauged big holes in my skin. I was tested twice for obstetric cholestasis, but tests were negative. I put on 3 stone + and was generally miserable. The only good thing was that I had a successful VBAC delivery.

hth!

First pregnancy (DD) was scary (bleeding for weeks) and came with intense monitoring towards the end, but aside from first trimester nausea, I felt amazing, like my body was doing what it was made to do. Birth was incredible and very positive.

Second full term pregnancy (DS) was uncomplicated. I felt exhausted and much heavier, put on loads more weight. Barely slept for the last three months. Birth was a crash section so totally different experience. Also at 41 I really felt my age.
