FCUK am I getting old?

Am I getting old or does anyone else find this French connection clothing range offensive.

I find it gross that young children are walking round with this on their chests and quite often the slogans are obviously so that FCUK is an anagram.

Tell me I'm not the only one pleeeese.

find it difficult to believe that teenagers see wearing a FCUK t shirts as rebellion. Lots of twenty somethings wear French Connection stuff too, so that must spell death to a rebellious 15 year old. Even teenagers must see the FC joke is a tired one.

I don't know many teenagers, granted, but I'd have thought they would have found French Connection clothing a bit tame - and a bit expensive.

katierocket · 09/05/2003 14:42

I don't think teenagers do see wearing FCUK t-shirts as a rebillion but the joe bloggs ones that furball referred to are along that lines.

I agree that FCUK is now quite tired and old but my point was that it worked as a marketing ploy because it got them loads and loads of publicity. At the time, when it first came out, it was quite neat and clever, whether you think that now, as it's been out so long it another matter.
I just don't see how it is offensive.

I don't like the FCUK stuff either, I wouldn't say it shocks but I find it unnecessary, I dislike having to look at someone with a rearranged swear word across their chest. Also I was disappointed to find one of the playgroup leaders as my DS1's playgroup wearing one of these t-shirts whilst on duty. I didn't complain as she is so nice but I don't think it is appropriate.

Agree Demented that it is inappropriate to wear one of these for a jb involving children. I certainly wouldn't wear one to school, and my pupils are teenagers.

Doesn't really bother me but agree that it's a bit tired. I know this wasn't the question, and I don't know where FCUK t-shirts are made, but ... if like a lot of high street names they are a dirty company (sweatshops, etc) that's way more offensive. (But am total hypocrite and don't walk round in clothes I wove myself from organic fair trade nettles so I'd better shut up).

Lighthousekeeper - agree totally. (I take it you've read "No Logo"?) They buy some T-shirt from the Philippines or somewhere, where people are working for a few dollars a day, then flog it for a fortune just because it's got some fancy label.

Don't find FCUK that offensive as such, but always take the mick out of friends in their thirties who wear these T-shirts saying "maybe" or "naughty" across the front of them. It's just so childish!

We don't have that brand here...either that or I'm soooo out of touch that I just haven't seen it (suspect that this is likely!). But when I saw the title to this thread I thought..what the hell??
It might as well be the word as that is what naturally comes to mind. I personally don't like the F word and so anything that makes me think it in my head is a bit much.
