Anyone else out there a fan of the above? Or am I the only 30 something mum that is addicted?

Just wanted to say that Buffy is probably the only programme I would bother taping if I wasn't around to watch it. My partner and I love it and are now watching the re-runs of series 1. I can't believe how young Buffy et al look, although she still wears outrageously short dresses and skirts (ooh what a prude!)

Lil · 04/06/2001 10:31

Have never been able to take the show seriously because of the title. I mean Buffy sounds like a porn star, and cos she's very young and pretty that makes it more so! Didn't realise it was a decent show until recently. Maybe being in the Buff means something different in the US?

Willow2 · 04/06/2001 15:14

Cannot believe I am not alone - hoorah! Completely agree with you Bron that Angel went a bit hooky the last two weeks, but his face at the end when he saw Willow was all it took to send me sobbing again. Feel quite gutted knowing it will be months until tv is worth watching again on a Friday. Suppose I could console myself with re-runs on BBc, but have seen them so many times now am almost word perfect. Just a thought, but am I alone in thinking that Spike has become one of the best characters? He gets all the best lines - his "Is everyone here just really stoned" comment when trying to explain the Glory/Ben phenomena had me in stitches. Please keep posting - it might help keep me sane for the months of emptiness! (Apparently new series is due out in America in the Autumn, don't know how long we will have to wait though)

Uh-oh better not read this thread anymore as have just realised you are all talking about the next series which I haven't seen yet. You lucky people with sky t.v.

Caznay · 05/06/2001 10:37

God, I dont believe it! I thought I was alone. How splendid. I am 34 and my husband and I are both utter addicts.

Tigermoth · 05/06/2001 12:18

My husband is a Buffy fan, too. Says it's the story lines and acting, 'it's not just for children you know' etc etc hmmmmm....Our 7-year old son initially got into the series, but now he's more interested in riding his bike outside. Cue husband calling for him to come in and watch it with him - he likes having the company.

What bothers me is the tweedy English teacher. Wasn't he a mainstay of those Gold Blend coffee ads years ago? Just can't take him seriously.

Willow2 · 06/06/2001 08:30

Tigermoth, no your hubby isn't pulling a fast one. Sure it has some rather attractive females in it - but there are some equally good looking guys. If anything Buffy is more for adults than kids - to be honest I think it can be a bit scary for them at times. But it is very very funny and complete escapism - so perfect for mums!

We let the smaller boys watch it along with teenage daughter - until we got woken up at 3am with nightmares. But they loved it , and wanted to watch it sooo much, so we let them the next week - and got woken up at 3am with nightmares ...

My addiciton is ER .. any other fans out there?

Tigermoth · 08/06/2001 16:06

Leading on from Copper, other dangers of letting small boys watch Buffy: Acute embarassment:

My 7 year old now and then goes to Sunday school at our local C of E church. It's very high church. After my son's first session, the teacher (someone I know quite well) sought me out in the tea-and-biscuits area. I asked her how my son had enjoyed it, and she gave me a long look. She told me that the teachers had intially been impressed by his interest in the alter - especially the large gold cross. He repeatedly asked to hold it, so in the end they gave it to him.

However, once it was in his grip he proudly swung it around the classroom, muttering how he'd always wanted to kill vampires, just like Buffy!

She saw the funny side, luckily.

Willow2 · 08/06/2001 18:40

Tigermoth, what a classic! On a similar note my nephew, having been practicing at school for his first communion, came running across the playground to meet his mum, yelling "mum, mum I've had the body of Christ and he tastes just like quavers".
Copper, am also addicted to ER - but have managed to miss the last few on Sky so hoping to catch up on Channel 4 in next few weeks. Other TV addictions include Ali McBeal and Sex and the City which I only discovered recently but am already hooked on big time. And to think that I once had a life.....

Tigermoth, Willow2, LOL! We don't catch Buffy but our toddler son caused a few stares by calling out "Hello, Cross" to the Bishop of Southwark at our similarly High church on Palm Sunday. His nursery staff probably think we are religious maniacs because he can also sing the first line of "In the Cross of Christ I glory" remarkably accurately, having heard it a few times in church. I think children just adore the pomp and ritual you get in some church services, especially if you can join in with plenty of singing.

Willow2 · 19/08/2001 20:10

Does anyone know when Buffy is back on air - or if it is coming back? Am going cold turkey.

OP posts:
Jj · 19/08/2001 20:34

It's supposed to return on 9 Oct in the US. It's switched networks-- now on UPN instead of the WB.

Enid · 21/02/2002 13:54

Willow2 - what do you think of the new series?

Willow2 · 21/02/2002 23:10

Enid - took a while to get going, but thursday's are now complete. Thought Buffy's admission as to where she had been (don't want to ruin it for you BBC viewers) at the end of the second episode was one nice twist. Not too sure about the Johnathon story lines - but kinda betting that we're going to see a lot more of Willow in black contact lenses this time around. What about you?

Someone who works with dh has all the videos from start to present so I have been catching up after never watching it before. Dh has now bought me a Buffey bag. Dh has also been watching the Angel videos and says is better than Buffey. I have only watched half of one (feel asleep) but he looks like he is right. Got to start Series 6 now and will then be up with the tv.

sis · 22/02/2002 10:12

Oh Joe1, I'm only up to about a third of the way through series five! Oh well, I suppose I have more to savour...

Joe1 · 22/02/2002 12:05

Sis, I would be at about the same place as you but dh brought the wrong tape home so missed out on, I think 8-11, or around that but it was pretty easy to fall back into. Dh has been watching them when he is on nights and in the first series he left out loads as he said they werent significant ones and was totally thrown for a while, I wasnt happy.

sis · 22/02/2002 20:15

Joe1, I don't suppose it really matters if you miss the odd few episodes as they often don't explain things until a few episodes later - the arrival of little sis Dawn being a classic example. Anyway, I'm hoping to watch at least a couple more episodes this weekend - I think it will be my Pop Idol substitute!

bea · 21/03/2002 15:39

oooo! i love buffy and it is one of the best series around at the moment... luckily i have sky 1 so am into the next series now... it's replaced my addiction to the x files... (which i must confess has really gone down the pan!!!... but in it's hey day there was nothing better... of course smouldering mulder helped immensely!!!)

My most fave episode was Hush... you know the one when they all woke up with their voices gone and those creatures were the scariest monsters around... ooo gave me the shivers!!!

But Spike is the best character... some cracking lines and it gets better!!!! (for those who have just finished the bbc series!!!)

oh dear must stop! as i know i am in danger of going into sci fi nerdiness!!! Help!

Enid · 21/03/2002 16:22

Buffy is great and I love the new Willow storyline (sky 1). But I can't handle her new love affair - I mean really! I still hanker after Angel I'm afraid...sigh...

Joe1 · 21/03/2002 18:28

I have at last started to watch Series 6, dh remembered to bring the tapes home. We both agree the new Buffy is not as good as previous and without Spike I think it would fall apart. Dh now prefers Angel, I havnt watched many of them but they are better. On the Buffy tapes I have each episode is followed by Angel so I will be watching one tonight while in bed (oops that doesnt sound too good especially as dh is working nights today)

Willow2 · 22/03/2002 10:48

So glad to see more of you coming out of the closet. My DH keeps trying to impress on me that Buffy is a fictional character and not a suitable role model for a mother of one, but what does he know? Thursday nights are now my favourite moment of the week - am thinking I should wear a do not disturb sign around my neck between the hours of 8 and 10!

so good to find other buffy fans - can't believe her new love affair !! I still prefer Angel. MMMM Angel
