Little ways to improve life thread

I was thinking the other day how little things that you do/see every day can really make a difference to your whole mood etc. And I realised that recently I've made a few very small changes that have made me less stressed and happier, just silly things like I was getting really fed up with our tiny airer which barely held half a load of washing. With the nice weather, and buying a new airer, I no longer get frustrated with the washing because I can do as many loads as I can fit into one day and not have them drying all around the house for (what seemed like) weeks.

The second thing I did was buy DS some nice, brightly coloured vests so that even though getting him dressed is still stressful (he hates it) I at least get cheered up by looking at the nice yellow vest with a fish on it rather than a plain white one.

Realising this made me suddenly understand what the "Hanging a lovely washing" thread was about - the little ways that everyday activities can brighten up your day or irritate you, depending on how you approach them.

So - the point of this thread is that you can post about little silly insignificant things which are irritating/stressing/boring/depressing you and get suggestions on how to make them less annoying.

Must get some of those sicky bags don't like doses up my Ds. Will start for long trips but not short.

My personal ones:

Making sure that at least one meal per day is absolutely delicious, but also really healthy - so i feel like I've had a treat, but without any guilt.

(One for working mums) Doing a 5 minute tidy before I leave the house for work in the morning, so it's tidy for when I come back.

Always having a good book or my IPOD with me so I am never bored if I'm commuting or have to wait somewhere. Hate waiting!

In fact, always having a good book on the go. keeps my imagination fired up.

Being prepared for all weathers. I always carry an umbrella and a lightweight cardi.

Comfy shoes!

Having Sky Plus, so I've always got something good to watch on TV.

I have enjoyed reading this thread, very soothing .

One of mine is sorting out my make-up bag once a fortnight. I always feel more groomed if my make up is in good nick. I clean and polish my shoes properly once a week too for the same reason.

Doing these little things makes me feel so much more sorted when I go off to work.

Ooh yes King.Good ones!

I'm off to polish my shoes. I've been meaning to do it for days but every time I leave the house I'm laden with changing bag / water cup and DD under one arm. The last thing on is my shoes - water-stained from the last time it rained. Thanks KingRolo.

I bought new canvas storage bags to fit on the tope of our cupboards. It liberated my drawers from all the things I wanted to keep but didn't 'need'. Much nicer.

Chucking less than up-to-scratch undies IS very good.

I thought I was going to like that cupboard step, but actually found it a bit sinister. I'm not sure why.

Mine is having a hanging basket outside my front door with lavendar in it - admittedly it does create 'work' (watering) - but my husband does it and its lovely to have such a beautiful and scented plant right by the door.
Plus I try to do something new each month - try a new activity, find out info on a topic I previously knew nothing about. It broadens my horizons a bit and gives me something other than housework and children to discuss!!

Nice quality kitchen roll [saddo] - I really hate inferior rolls that don't tear properly on the perforations and disintegrate under the puniest amount of domestic pressure

Ditto bog roll - cheapo ones that don't unravel symmetrically, and leave a light dusting of, er, bog roll dust everywhere, just eat away at your soul...

Go mad and get some Bounty and Charmin
