Would you let someone without kids mind yours?

I was contacted by someone yesterday needing a regular babysitter and after a brief conversation she said that I was nice enough but she did not feel comfortable leaving her children with me because I did not have any.

I have good childcare references, an enhanced CRB check, basic first aid/health and safety/food hygiene qualifcations, I work as a carer for the elderly so am obv patient and can deal will ickyness etc. So tbh I was quite taken aback. Especially as it would only have been 3 hours a week after school! I am 20 BTW.

Its not the end of my world, but it just surprised me! Is that a normal mum thing?

Hi MrsD,

I can't possibly believe that of you

MrsDoolittle · 18/05/2005 21:25

You gotta be kidding HMC!

aloha · 18/05/2005 21:28

I used to look after kids sole charge before I was 20, and if I say so myself, I was fantastic - really interested in them, fun to be with, cheery, lots of energy, happy to plait hair/make dinners/run races with them. I'd be much less fun now!

MrsDoolittle · 18/05/2005 21:30

That's great aloha. As I said I wasn't fantastic, far from it, so why should I expect anyone else to be any different? That's personal opinion, but I'm allowed one.

Sorry aloha, no I'm not cross.
Just thought you were disagreeing me directly, I wasn't going to bother going tit for tat.
I misunderstood you obviously. Maybe it's because you wear flip flops!!

Riiiight

SleepyJess · 18/05/2005 21:39

If it was necessary for people to already have children in order to competently care for them, then firstborns would never been allowed home from hospital!!

ionesmum · 18/05/2005 21:44

My favourite babysitters are a couple we are friends with who don't have children - it means they are free to come here in the evenings, apart from anything else.

MrsDoolittle · 18/05/2005 21:51

Now I'm just talking about my own baby. Hell, I didn't trust myself with her when she first came home.
I don't mind what anyone else does.

ionesmum · 18/05/2005 22:00

I've just met dd1's prospective reception class teacher and she can't be much older than twenty. I don't know much about her but my friend who runs the feeder pre-school says she is fab. Have to admit I wouldn't have a teenager babysit but a twenty-year old is more than capable.
