Christmas birthday - summer party etiquette?

dd1's birthday is on 20 Dec - last year we were going to have a party but only 2 people in her class could come (it was the first Sat of the holidays). Anyway I promised her rashly she could have a party in the summer like the Queen (!) and she has remembered!

so...
if we have a party do we make it her 'birthday party'?
If so which one - she'll officially be 5.5
do people bring presents (bearing in mind she'll probably have a trip to the panto with a few friends near her birthday too)

or do I try and fob her off and have a big party at the beginning of December instead?

If you've the energy to do a party, I'd go for it - sounds like a great idea. If you design some invites on the computer you could call it an 'UNbirthday party' and include a brief explanation.

I think you should welcome presents, but not expect them iyswim: just leave it up to the guests. I think most people would bring one.

Can you give it a wintery summer theme? God knows how - "icicles" in drinks, etc? Or is that mental?

Make it her "5.5th birthday", people will understand. Yes, definitely I'd do a summer party & do a small event for her real bday in December.
