Hiring a Babysitter for our wedding night????

mum2toby · 02/05/2003 11:09

As most of you know by now, I'm getting married in October. Everyone that would normally be considered for babysitting my ds (22 mths) will be at the wedding.

The reception is in a hotel and we will be staying there overnight. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on organising a babysitter to take ds up to the hotel room at, say 9ish and stay overnight with him. That way he gets to bed at a decent time, we all get to party and we can also check on him an hundred times if we want to.

I just can't imagine my wedding night with ds who doesn't sleep very well.

hi mum2toby,what a great idea!!have you asked the hotel, see if they could provide one?

sykes · 02/05/2003 11:13

Depending on the hotel's facilities I'd try and organise two separate - interconnecting rooms/suite (large room with a small room off it). If the babysitter is staying overnight you'll, obviously, need two large rooms, though. We've done this quite a bit but never asked the babysitter to stay past about 2ish. However, and if I could do a winky face I would, as it's your wedding night you may well do.

My cousin had a similar dilemma last year with her two dds, my Aunt and Uncle booked a family rooms and the girls were put to bed in there, one of her close work colleagues bought her daughter (aged 17) along and she babysat them for the evening and Grandma & Grandad had them overnight. It worked really well.

Whymummy - I haven't asked the hotel yet, but I should. This might be something they deal with quite a lot.

Sykes - Yeah, I'd really like the babysitter to stay overnight. Even though it's our wedding night dp will probably have a wee bit too much to drink.... IYKWIM

I have used the baby sitting service a number of times at different hotels. There are a number of ways that they do it and each has it's pros and cons :

a ) Listening service though the phone - not that great if DS wakes up and gets scared quite quickly, but probably free

b ) Checking service - someone comes round and checks on DS ever 15 mins or so - if he's a light sleeper he might wake every time the door is opened.

c ) Full Babysitting - ie staying in the room with DS - Worked OK for us as DD and DS once asleep are not easliy roused - as babysitter wanted the TV on - but they do cost more. AND I am not too sure what the situation is for the whole night ( ie till morning )

Hope that is of some use !

Whereabouts are you getting married, just town name will do, I could supply a brilliant, competant, police checked, first aid trained. registered childminding assistant, baby sitter (DD)if it is near!

My daughter is 14 and has just started babysitting. Your brother will be fine, maybe have a trail run for an hour or so first, nip to the shops and leave them together?

mum2toby · 02/05/2003 11:23

Alibubbles - I'm getting married in Central Scotland. Are you north of the border?

Thanks Crystaltips!! Thats' great.

Surely your brother won't want to miss out on the reception! Are any other relatives/friends staying at the hotel? Do any other guests have babysitting age children?

crystaltips · 02/05/2003 11:26

Your brother mightn't mind for "a small fee"

whymummy · 02/05/2003 11:41

your brother is a brilliant idea,he could take a playstation or whatever he is into and im sure hell be fine and as your ds knows him well there`ll be no crying or waking up and missing you

mum2toby · 02/05/2003 11:48

My Brother definitely seems to be the best bet then!

Well my brother thinks it's a grrrreat idea, in fact he'd already asked my Mum if he could!! He's a star..... his voice has just broken LOL... poor soul!

I'm using a different name today coz it's the weekend... how sad am I?

Alibubbles - Oh well.... nice of you to offer her services though.
