Yesterday I was in the play area of a park with my ds. A 'man' stranger came and sat next to us and started talking to me. He then stroked ds cheek and did the finger gripping thing - which I didn't like - how can I say piss off I don't like it?

I've seen this man before on my walks, and he is always on his own. I did think it was no good to see a lone man in playground, but I'm overly worried about things like that anyway.

I'm with flashingnose I think its incredibly sad this immediate distrust of strangers especially old probably lonely people who just want to make a fuss over your children and have some human contact

it is not like the children are going to be kidnapped with you standing right there and it could be the highlight of someone else's day

what kind of generation are we bringing up if we instill in them this total fear of strangers - everyone else is a potential paedophile / dirty or infectious

It is hard isn't it? There's a fine line between friendly and plain odd. Here in Turkey, everyone and everyone will come and kiss/pat/pinch/grab the baby. When we go out, someone will always come and ask to hold ds. Went to an engagement party on Saturday. Didn't even *see ds for about 40 mins. Everyone and I mean everyone does it. Was at the university yesterday and great big lads were cooing over him.
I'm all for it-anything for a break

I think you just have to go with your gut feeling. Agree with tarantula-would feel very sad if I knew someone had been short with my darling grandparents if they were just being friendly.

We should rejoice at the fact that we're still not too screwed up to enjoy the presence of a baby. Enjoy it while you can-it will probably be illegal to look at one in a few years!

When my sisters and I were young,we obediently kissed any and everyone as that was the way it was!!!Remember turning up at my grandparents once and kissing some old bloke goodbye. It was only later we realised he was the bloody plumber! Bet he still thinks about it now-three nubile teenage (fgs!!) girls coming to nuzzle him!!

Lizzie910 - I say that dds have a terrible cold or have just been in contact with another little one with infectious illness. But - Once had to take dd to hospital when she was 3 weeks old with a V. high temp. A woman in the waiting area wouldn't stop her child from coming over to dd who was obvioulsy ill. My dd had meningitus & was kept in hospital - luckily we we told 4 days later it was the viral kind. I kept telling this women to ask her child to leave dd alone & she ignored me!!! When we got the diagnosis wondered what she'd have thought about that.
