Anyone have two boys followed by a girl?

I heard that if you have a boy first, and then a second boy, that you are unlikely to ever have a girl. Anyone else heard this? Can anyone prove it wrong?

Does anyone have any tips on how to swing the odds for a girl?????????

roisin · 09/05/2005 07:44

Gobbledigook - yes! All she wanted was a girl. And what's worse the children knew it

Now all she wants is a granddaughter! But she's not getting one from us. We've got two boys and I'm delighted with them, we don't want any more children.

Ja9 - I have BBG. I was surprised she was a girl - memorably asked the midwife if she was sure .

What did get on my pip was everyone's comments during pregnancy ' trying for a girl?' Er no just a baby.

My Auntie had 2 boys then 2 girls.

Isn't having a boy or a girl all to do with when in your menstrual cycle you have sex?

Apparently, male sperm swim faster but die quicker whereas girl sperm are heavier (and probably have cellulite ) and therefore are slower but live longer. So you are more likely to have a girl if you have sex a day or so before ovulation as by the time the egg is released, most of the male sperm will have died and the girl sperm is just getting there.

Reverse rules if you are trying for a boy e.g. have sex just when ovulating.

Also, female sperm thrive in acidic conditions and male sperm alkaline conditions. This is where the advice re douching with vinegar (acidic) or bicarbonate of soda (alkaline) comes from - has anyone actually done this?

Got this info from "Planning a Baby?" by Dr Sarah Brewer - really good book. I got pregnant first time I tried at nearly 37 and had a dd. As I knew when I was ovulating just knew it was going to be a she.

jamiesam ... I am not sure how diet of the mother can possibly determine the sex of a baby ... as the baby's sex is completely down to the sex chromosomes of the man's sperm.
It is a lottery girls ... a complete lottery!

How about 5 boys followed by a girl (acquaintance of mine - sadly one of the boys was stillborn though)

lima · 09/05/2005 09:52

I was at school with a girl who was one of 5 daughters....

Tessiebear · 09/05/2005 09:57

try for a baby ... not just a particular sex - or you could end up dissappointed.
I am about to give birth to boy no.3. I tried for a girl and it has taken me quite a while to come to terms with the fact that it is another boy (found out at 20 wk scan)
I am fine about it now - but have realised that you cant control nature

My Mum had GGB, I had BBG as did my SIL. My DHs Aunt had six boys trying for a girl, which I think is a bit sad both in that she didn't get what she obviously wanted and that her sons grew up knowing they weren't 'right'

dinosaur · 09/05/2005 10:03

Well, I have three boys, but my boss had two boys and then a girl.

piffle · 09/05/2005 10:23

my mums mum (ie my granny)
had 2 boys then my mum, then another son then 6 more girls....

handlemecarefully · 09/05/2005 10:28

Was she knackered?

saadia · 09/05/2005 11:08

I know of two families with two boys first and then a girl, thus disproving the theory.

I myself have two dss and was once told by a complete stranger that my third one would be a boy as well, but I would be grateful just to have a third doesn't matter what the gender is.

Stilltrue · 09/05/2005 11:12

I have bbgb; I've heard of a book by someone called Hazel chesterman (?) about shifting the odds somewhat in favour of one sex or the other, but I'm sceptical i must say. Also there might be something in the theory to the effect that male sperm are shorter lived but faster, female last longer but swim slower, so "go for it" at /after ovulation for a boy and before ov for a girl on the basis that a female sperm will be hanging about waiting to fertilise. However if there was anything but a very very marginal difference to be made for any of the diet/ ovulation timing theories, then wouldn't we know about it by now? And nobody can explain boy/girl twins by ref to any of these theories, can they? Enjpy what you get and be thankful!!

My mum did

well i had dd1, then ds1 and ds2 then recent addition a girl!

zubb · 09/05/2005 12:37

My grandmother had BBBG, and I know a couple of people with BBG.
I can't prove it wrong as we're going to have boy number 3 soon, but ds1 has already asked for a 'girl next time please' so I may have to revisit this in a couple of years time!
