I want to but some things that I have seen on ebay but I suddenly got cold feet about the fact that I dont get to see them. Has anyone any good/bad experiences with ebay?
It feels as if the stuff doenst really exist except as a pretty enticing picture on my 'puter

I've bought stuff and haven't had a problem - you can check out the seller's rating (it's a number next to their name I think) and if there have been any comments about them, you'll know then if they're trustworthy hpefully.

I've bought from there and been extremely happy with everything. There are a couple of other threads about ebay but I can't remember what they were called or where they are located.

I have never had an issue buying from ebay but I know this isn't always the case. Everything I bought, basically toys for my ds, were in good clean working order and when something was slightly faulty this was always listed so I knew before I purchased.

My advice for you is to check out the seller's ratings which you will see beside their name in the bid document. Beside their name should be some numbers which indicate how many feedback comments they have had. If there are any bad or too many mediocre ones then steer clear.

Some tricks to ebay are, depending on the item you are bidding on, people wait until close to the last minute to bid which may mean if you aren't watching out you may lose out.

I highly recommend it as I have even had people return postage to me when I paid more than it actually cost to send. I never even looked at the cost when I got the parcel so it was a nice surprise.

Be careful. It's as addictive as mumsnet.

Be careful, a lot of the designer goods are not real even though they are described as Burberry or whatever. However they are pretty good fakes so if you buy one knowing it's a fake they are a pretty good buy for £40.

I sell on Ebay, not loads but some childrens' clothes. Now the feedback rating is very obvious so make sure the positive feedback is as near to 100% as possible. Most genuine sellers don't want bad feedback so will sort out any problems quickly. I have had 2 refunds recently and a free t-shirt sent for my trouble. Good Luck

Agree with Meanmum, Ebay is highly addictive! I've bought loads and am contemplating selling now. Everything I've bought (won) has been as described by the seller, I've had no problems. I usually pay by cheque and the seller will usually wait until it has cleared before posting the item. A couple of tips: don't get carried away with bidding if you are getting outbid - stick to your max; be aware of postage and packing costs - I don't tend to buy from people unless they state the exact cost of postage upfront. Happy bidding!

I've bought lots of things on ebay from computers to architectural salvage stuff. I've never had a problem. But it can be addictive.

I have bought two lovely braclets from E-bay and I was very happy with the service.

Always check the sellers feedback. Don't bid until the last 15 minute, that way you have a better chance of winning. Try and stick to your budget remembering that you also have to pay postage and packaging. Usually the seller lists how much this will be on the main page.
I've only bought from people selling in the UK so that I can send a cheque and haven't had any problems. Someone I work with often buys things from E-bay and has never had a problem and it was her that gave me all those tips.

Good Luck

Just wanted to share this with you - I won an item at around 8pm on Thursday and I received it in the post this morning - and I haven't even sent them the cheque yet!

SoupDragon · 03/05/2003 08:48

I've used Ebay a lot and haven't had a problem. When selling I ususally wait for the cheque to clear only if it's a large amount, when selling stuff like McDs toys, I don't bother waiting.

It's an Ebay thread! Where's SB34 ??!

doormat · 03/05/2003 09:56

Like others here I use ebay and have not had a problem so far.
