I know Hebden Bridge and Saltaire very well. Have lived in both. There are a lot of similarities but Hebden is bigger and a much older place. Saltaire was only set up by Titus Salt when he built his mill and the village from about 1830's (I think).
Both have good primary schools, decent parks, lots of good walking without having to get into your car. Saltaire (sadly) recently lost it's independent bookshop. Both have reasonable co-op supermarkets.
Both have good rail links to Leeds and Bradford, Hebden is also on a good rail link to Manchester.
Both have a pretty active left/liberal/green community and plenty of community events and groups.
Hebden can be a bit oppressive with the lack of light but that does depend very much on where you would live. Some bits are deep in the valley, some up high on the hills so the light varies quite a lot. Hebden has suffered some serious flooding in recent years.
Hebden is definitely more 'Narnia' than Sataire!
There are some restrictions on what adataptions/renovations you can have in Saltaire as the whole of the village is a World Heritage site in addition to being listed.
Both places have some very nice restaurants and bars.
Both places have way too many gifty/trinket shops!
