Can anyone think of any good hymns for my dd's christening in 6 weeks time? The only one anyone can think of is "all things bright and beautiful". Thanks in advance.

We had All things too, and "Lord of all Hopefulness, Lord of all Joy" and "Heavenly Father may thy blessing rest upon thy children dear"

We had Lord of All Hopefulness at our wedding, it's a lovely "all-purpose" celebratory hymn. Badjelly, are you having dd christened during Morning Service or going it alone in the afternoon? I ask because the Director of Music at the church might have some kind of hymn calendar already rigged up for the church year...ours does. We did manage to persuade him to let us have "Let all the world in every corner sing", another jubilant hymn by a great English divine, George Herbert. Hope you all have a lovely day.

We also had "lord of all Hopefulness" at the Christening. One which I wish we had chosen (but didn't for good reasons at the time) was "Glad that I live am I" - short but lovely.

Another vote for Lord of all Hopefulness - it was one of our wedding hymns too.

What about 'Sing Hosanna' 'Lord of the dance' 'Morning has broken' 'All things bright and beautiful.' 'O Jesus I have promised (modern version) These are what we had at Ds christening.

Depends on the type of church and the sort of music they provide as 'backing'! If its an organ, you would be better to go for some of the more traditional ones, but if they have a group there are some fantastic modern hymns - "I am a new creation", and there is a lovely one called Because He Lives, which has a wonderful verse about how sweet it is to hold a new born baby. Whatever you pick, have a fantastic day.

Has anyone had their child christened in a multiple christening scenario. Our local church christens 6 children in the same service specifically for christenings ie a separate service. It seems like it might be a bit of a conveyor belt and less personal. Thanks for your opinions

Hymn

One more step along the world I go,

One more step along the world I go;

From the old things to the new

Keep me travelling along with you.

And it?s from the old I travel to the new;

Keep me travelling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn,

More and more about the world I learn;

All the new things that I see

You?ll be looking at along with me:

As I travel through the bad and good,

Keep me travelling the way I should;

Where I see no way to go

You?ll be showing me the way I know.

Give me courage when the world is rough,

Keep me loving when the world is tough;

Leap and sing in all I do,

Keep me travelling along with you.

You are older than the world can be,

You are younger than the life in me;

Ever old and ever new,

Keep me travelling along with you.

NK6 - my niece was christened in a group of babies and it seemed fine. The families were briefed on 'Christening protocol' before the service before being shown their pews - a bit like the talks Vicars do at wedddings now. The church my dd was christened in probably christens a baby about every two years on average so it was very much about her .
