Ds2 drew on the 3 seater with perm. marker pen.. claimed on house insurance, but they said they will only replace the 3 seater, even though I brought the suite as a package and they don't do them one their own... what should i do?

Just get another sofa that goes with the one you have - lots of people, including us have sofas that do not match.

SparklyGothKat · 14/05/2009 14:44

am on phone to see if I can get one on its own

what does it say in the small print? Personally I have heard of a friend who complained and was properly reimbursed for all of the suite.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/05/2009 14:46

argue with them that it came as a suite, and they should fund 50% of the rest of it. If you are really pushy, have a good insurance rep, and lots and lots of charm you might be able to get full cost, but v v unlikely.

I damaged by bath recently, and got full cost to replace, but not the rest - i argued that the bath could not be matched to the suite and the purpose of insurance was that my bathroom should look as it did prior to the damage. I got 50% of rest of the suite, including taps (i argued that the old taps were classic style, the new suite would be modern, and cheaper to purchase than the classic, and on that basis they agreed the taps too, thank god they are expensive!!!) - new bathroom for £600. lovely.

I think you can argue the same for a suite, a new sofa won't match the rest, and they will not look good mismatched.

this is very similar to the one I have www.harveysfurniture.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?sID=1571 I am not asking for like for like price mine was £500

if you are not going for like for like, just another sofa, get a more expensive one!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/05/2009 14:51

I quite like that though, is it comfy? We need a new sofa.

SparklyGothKat · 14/05/2009 14:56

ours is comfy.. I can get a replacement 3 seater for £299... might pay out another £100 and get the suite myself

the insurance will only give me £300, the cost of the 3 seater not the 2 seater

OP posts:
pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/05/2009 17:43

£300 I got more for my bath

SparklyGothKat · 14/05/2009 21:30

ok need to make a decision now...

Insurance have settled the claim by transferring £225 into my bank account (£300 minue my excess of £75) so do I....

Buy the 3 seater, which isn't the same as the 2 seater I have here, but similar

Or sell the 2 seater and get a whole new suite??

hmmm

Buy a whole new suite. Why have mismatched if you don't have to? I mean there is nought wrong with mismatched, but to go from a matching suite, have the insurance pay out and then to a non-matching suite, pointless.

I would also try to sell the suite with permanent marker on it, some-one will want it, even if it just covers your excess. That way, you will not have to pay for much of the additional cost at all, if anything.

SparklyGothKat · 14/05/2009 21:43

lol did think about that, but if I sell it now I will have no sofa until the new one is delivered.. My dad said that harveys do let you pay when its delivered though, he paid just £40 and is paying the rest tomorrow when his new one is delivered

OP posts:
pavlovthepregnantcat · 14/05/2009 21:44

when will new one arrive? will you have to wait weeks? you could live all moroccan like, scatter cushions and throws everywhere for a few weeks?!!

SparklyGothKat · 14/05/2009 21:46

This one took about 12 weeks to come and I think if I made DH sit on the floor he wouldn't get up again as his knees are really bad atm lol...

don't go matchy-matchy - tis very dated. A sofa to complement the existing chairs would be so much better.
