Hi, I bought this dress of e-bay a while ago for my daughter. It's far too big for her really, about ancle length. We could try and take it up from the sholders. It looks better on her than the girl in the picture, as my daughter has long aubern hair.

it'this one: childrensalon.com/product_info.php?cPath=4423_5195_5196&products_id=10692

I really love this dress by Jottum, although it's far too expencive really. She has 2 weddings to go to and one prize giving day and christmas party etc. (just trying to justify it)

Please let me know what you think.

I think with either of the dresses you linked to, at a wedding you run the risk of other guests assuming you really really wanted your daughter to be a bridesmaid.

However, of the two, I much prefer the first. The second makes both girls look as though they have no neck, and the skirt flaring out from the chest will not flatter petite figures, in my opinion.

But then I usually stuff dd into the nearest dungarees, so I'm no fashion guru!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 07/05/2009 14:36

I don't like either of the two linked in the first post but do like the Joules one.

Good point frisbyrat. That is of corse true. But don't want to make it obveous.

I think I will go for the Joules one. It's femenin and fun, just like her.
I love the mouse shoes too.

I'm glad I got your honest opinions. I wasn't sure about the first dress, but loved the second. I'm glad I know that no one would really like it, I can save my money.

The Joules one is grand, a good choice and much more characterful that the others

Those mouse shoes are fab too, which colour are you going for? Violet?

Sibble · 07/05/2009 19:47

prefer the first too, you can always get her a bolero or wrap to go over the top like the other in case it's cool.

Metatron · 07/05/2009 19:51

I like the second one. TBH you aren't going to get away with dressing her like that for too much longer so go for it!

PrammyMammy · 11/05/2009 20:37

Second one is my favorite too. If i had a little girl that's the one i'd choose.
I'm off to google Jottum.

Poppity · 11/05/2009 21:04

I love the Joules one. The Jottum one is very pretty, but yes, a bit bridesmaidy. I think the Joules one would stand out more at a wedding

squilly · 11/05/2009 21:12

I say you should really go to town on her dress now as she won't be little for long. And Jottum and other designer brands generally hold their value well if you want to sell it on when your dd is finished with it.

My dd had a GORGEOUS Little Darlings dress one Christmas, we'd picked up from a car boot for £7 and it was totally stunning, just like new. She wore it a few times, for special occasions, then we sold it on Ebay for £35 (on bids).

Now DD wouldn't be seen dead in a dress. She's all skinny jeans and tee shirts. In fact we have a wedding coming up at the end of May and I've bought her a dress from Fatface which she took one look at and said 'I ain't wearing THAT!'.

If you see headline, Squilly goes to prison for slaughtering 8 year old you'll know I let her beat me

squilly · 11/05/2009 21:14

Oh...and I'm loving the Monsoon dresses with all the little accessories. [grumpy emoticon] cos dd won't wear glitzy girly stuff any more...everything's skulls and blardy scruffiness....blardy little girls. Why couldn't I have had me a boy? Then we wouldn't be having this palarver...

Poppity · 12/05/2009 11:55

Have you looked at mim pi?

Sizes start at 5, but the fit is small ime

Poppity · 12/05/2009 12:41

mini a ture

tulip and nettle do lovely quirky but traditional dresses, doesn't look like they have a party dress at the mo though

Their Nibs dresses are usually special looking.

Pip squeak Chapeau do some beautiful glam simple dresses for children, I can never find them over here though.

Trish Scully does amazing dresses, and they usually have matching pieces if you want them. The only place I have been able to buy them is from American ebay shops, but that has always been fine. I love this one too!
This is the ebay shop I used.

Phew! Enjoyed that virtual shop!

SoupDragon · 12/05/2009 12:45

Both those original dresses are horrendous. You can still do pretty and girly without them looking like a doll.

Astrophe · 12/05/2009 12:55

I agree that the Joules one is wonderful - fun and beautiful, and so appropriate for a little girl. The others are a bit dull I think - not awful or anything, but white is dull for a little one IMHO

agennaro · 16/05/2009 18:47

Hi, sorry may be a little late I have the Jottum for my daughter who is 3 and it is much much nicer than that picture suggests. If you google Jottum Saliciana you might get some better pictures. I love Jottum as you won't find loads of other little girls wearing same outfit.
The other fab thing with Jottum clothes is that you can sell them on ebay afterwards and make quite a lot of the original cost back. Well that's what I tell myself anyway
