Heart shaped box - Nirvana.
Weird but true, ds3 loved it in the womb and still loves the song now

Norah Jones sends number 4 off, Pink, Nelly, Justin Timberlake and Gareth Gates sets him off dancing and singing.

DD used to get soothed quickly by 2 songs from the Robbie William's 'Swing when your winning' album - Things (with Jane Horricks) and Something stupid(with Nicole Kidman). I played the album a lot when pg in the car on the way to and from work, and used to have dance along to some of the tracks at home to keep active(!) so maybe she got used to hearing them then. Even now, at 12 months, she likes them.

Mind, she loves all music now and likes nothing better than a boogie.

CD of 'Everything but the Girl' was ds's favourite - all through pregnancy and babyhood. One particular track, (can't remember the name)has a great line 'I've got nothing to do today, but smile'- we both loved that song. Also another track 'apron strings' would always send him off to sleep. Makes me feel really nostalgic for that little bubba, bless.

Silent Night

Ds used to nod off every time I put on the Wonderstuff's "Size of a Cow". Very strange.

bea · 24/04/2003 23:26

not to sleep... but bounces around the room...boy with the arab strap - belle and sebastian, moon river - gets all misty eyed about.... and ditto with justin timberlake (cry me a river)... must be the mtv!!!

Ghosty · 25/04/2003 01:02

'Trashing the Camp' from the Disney Tarzan movie .. unbelievable ... must have been the rhythm of Phil Collins' loud drums or something!
Now he loves Shania Twain when she comes on the radio ...
Still hates anything classical or slow ... makes him sad and he wants to cry ...

as a tiny baby it was a wave type noise that did the trick for ds, now Nat King Cole (esp "When I fall in Love" ) that does it. My neice loved Aka Bilk (sorry about the spelling) "Stranger on the shore" it would calm her from a hairy fit or send her peacefully off to sleep.

megg · 25/04/2003 11:21

Elvis - Are you Lonesome Tonight always sent ds off for the big sleep. Haven't tried it recently though. He loves loads of music even opera. Watching cricket seems to calm him down, in fact its one of two sports that is allowed on the tv when he's up (the other is motorcycle racing), I think its because when I was pg the World Cup was on a lot.

tallulah · 25/04/2003 17:19

DD loved George Michael's Careless Whisper (& now doesn't believe me!)

willow2 · 25/04/2003 19:11

Hard core hip hop.

Something to do with the bass I think.

mands1 · 25/04/2003 19:52

the sound of his own crying!!!!!!!!

CAM · 25/04/2003 21:37

My singing, so terrible that poor little thing went to sleep to block it out

Demented · 25/04/2003 22:59

Ah nice Droile, my DS2 was dropping off to Robbie the other day too, aaahhh!

Oakmaiden · 25/04/2003 23:08

Apparently when i was a baby my father used to prop me up against his shoulder and march up and down the hallway singing "Men of Harlech". I used to go to sleep to get away from the noise.

This was also a man who was sometimes forced by his position at his place of employment to attend church services (he is quite anti organised religion). He used to pinch me until I cried, and then make a big show of taking me outside so as not to interrupt the proceedings.

griffy · 25/04/2003 23:21

DS used to fall asleep to:

a) Tape of classical music played in 4/4 that came with the nervous first-time mother's "how to play with baby's" pack (retailing at a moderate £2 million). Rumoured to increase the bit of brain that would later deal with maths. Poor sod got that every night for months!

b) Glaswegian DP singing:

Cammerton Loch I wish you were whisky
Cammerton Loch Och aye
Cammerton Loch I wish you were whisky
I would drink you dry

(to of a sort of eightsome reel with imaginary bagpipes)

When dd was tiny and we did not know what to do! as you do.. I put on Whitney Houston 'My love is your love' and by the 2nd track she would be asleep, Got sooooo fed up with it! It was the only thing that worked in the early days, Whitney was my saviour!

susanmt · 26/04/2003 12:18

My dd likes Daddy singing 'You are my Sunshine' which he has done since I was 3 months pg with her. She also used to get all sleepy to me singing 'Dream Angus' - a scottish lullaby.
Dh's song for ds is a version of 'Daisy Daisy'

Baby, Baby, Baby all covered in poo
You're very smelly but we still love you
We have to change your nappy ten million times a day
But you're still sweet, yes you are,
And we love you

Awwwww. Works every time!

MrsS · 26/04/2003 12:24

M&S do a really nice CD called "I watch you sleeping" it has lots of wel known songs and they all roll into one. We put it on every night to get 2 yo DS to sleep

breeze · 28/04/2003 10:19

When DS was 8 months old, the only song that would calm him down was careless whisper, must admit now that everytime I hear the song, I want to scream.

mum2toby · 28/04/2003 10:25

With ds it was "Kiss Me" by Sixpence none the richer. And Atomic Kittens " Whole Again", much to horror of dp!!

I listened to them all the time while I was pregnant and sang them in the shower!

My brother LOVED the Home and Away theme tune. Can you tell how my Mum spent her days at home??

buzzybee · 28/04/2003 10:33

Celine Dion - ugh...
