I have one. My proudest posession (I have the "compact" one with letters like flyspecks). I'll be back in a min.

PS doesn't exist online as far as I know - the DVD version costs hundreds and is huge.

SenoraPostrophe · 27/04/2005 14:13

PPS can it wait until this evening? - just had an important work email in.

Hi - we've got the online OED at work here. This is what it came up with for flyspeck-

fly-speck, -spot, (a) a stain produced by the excrement of an insect; also fig.; (b) a plant disease, esp. of apples and pears, caused by the fungus Leptothyrium pomi;

Er...hope that helps?

I keep promising myself a copy (on dvd) alnog with Encyclopedia Britannica.

when I was about 8, my dad bought a real set of britannica, and I remember the joy of being able to look up anything I wanted.

gg,

The problem with looking things up on the internet (generic), is that soooooo much of the content is unvarified, and indeed, unvarifiable.

Anyway, I have a romantic attachment to books in their physical form, and feel quite sad that we can't get Britannica as a set of books anymore, evrn tho' I appreciate the value of hyperlinks etc that electronic means can supply.
