found it Blush

PuffTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2005 15:32

I really like "Babette's Feast".

FrenchGirl · 26/04/2005 15:32

If you don't mind french films, and if you like thrillers get 'Harry, he's here to help', it's very good.
Other good 'recent' french films (and I am very picky!) are 'le diner de cons' (very funny) and 'Le gout des autres' (The taste of others). I love that last one.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2005 15:33

Brill, thank you PsychoF

suzywong · 26/04/2005 15:33

Casino is fan effin tastic, best swearing ever by Joe Pesci IMO

bundle · 26/04/2005 15:39

donnie darko good too, is it a trend, films called donnie?

Gem13 · 26/04/2005 15:39

Goodbye Lenin
Motorcycle Diaries

both really good

PuffTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2005 15:40

I liked "Lost in Translation" too, but might not be to everyones taste.

Dophus · 26/04/2005 15:47

We've recently had:

Jean de florette + sequel
The Vanishing (Dutch original)
Pennies from heavedn (dp's choice - wasn't initially convinced but stuck with it and loved it)
black books
dark water

plus many of those mentioned below.

Has anyone else noticed their turnaround time has got slower? It's starting to piss me off.

Dophus · 26/04/2005 15:49

21 grams
life of david gale

all of the above (and below) I gave a six to.

suzywong · 26/04/2005 15:57

Have you ever seen Night of the Hunter? Robert Mitchum
and the original Gregory Peck Robert Mitchum Cape Fear

Kayleigh · 26/04/2005 15:58

We are using ScreenSelect at the moment for a months trial. Turn around time is great. I did wonder if it would get slower once we were paying.

Dophus · 26/04/2005 16:00

Night of the hunter is superb. I always maintained that B&W films were over-acted and lacked subtlety. N of H is one of the darkest films I have ever seen.

suzywong · 26/04/2005 16:01

bloody right
it's a corker

just saw You Can Count On Me, would recommend, Laura Linney is a single mother (son played by yet another Culkin) with a waster brother

not exactly a gangster film though

bakedpotato · 26/04/2005 20:07

some recent rentals

Wimbledon -- Paul Bettany, yes please. Even though he has white eyelashes

The Bourne Supremacy -- fantastic action film, just the business

I Robot -- more action, also good

Swimming Pool -- verrrrry French, fairly crap but nice shots of sunny verandas etc

Mean Girls -- a reminder of how awful teenage girls are

Heartburn

Station Agent ,The -- thought this would be boring, it's about a dwarf and railways, but still is fantastic.

Shattered Glass -- tiny little US film about a journalist who made it all up (surely not).

JoolsToo · 26/04/2005 22:05

anyone seen the Manchurian Candidate? really fancy this (not to mention dishy Denzel )

charleepeters · 26/04/2005 22:33

eidsvold · 26/04/2005 22:35

Yes Jools - dh and I watched it recently. Brilliant but need to be focused and concentrating or you will miss the little clues etc along the way.

What about

The Terminal
Lantana ( aussie film... brilliant)
