need to get new shoes for DD1 (she is nearly 3)- anyone got any recommendations for where to go to get her measured and have a good choice? I'm in SE London, Herne Hill (between brixton and dulwich, not far from streatham either) - haven't been here long and don't know where to go...

thanks

Pares Shoes in Blackheath Village.
People swarm from miles around. Good range of Start-Rite, Ricosta, Elefanten, some Clarks. It's not the cheapest place to shop but the service is good and it is worth a visit.

Twiglett · 26/04/2005 13:17

lordship lane in east dulwich there's a big shoe shop which does clarks shoes (and foot measurements)

motherinferior · 26/04/2005 13:18

Lordship Lane shop is nice, but Pares shoes is Shoe Paradise. Both the Inferiorettes adore it.

Mind you, DD1 once had to be forcibly parted from a purple suede pointy-toe shoe in Hobbs, aged 18 months - it was hilarious, if tragic for her.

ZolaPola · 26/04/2005 13:22

aah Marina - fellow ex-Blackheathite
yep, Pares are great and sometimes have good sales too - can try the shoes out on the heath afterwards.

Marina · 26/04/2005 13:24

How goes it way out West Zola?

bossykate · 26/04/2005 13:27

have you been to webster's in brixton? choice isn't fantastic (mainly clarks) but it is a thorough painstaking service - therefore slow so go early in the day!

Tiggiwinkle · 26/04/2005 13:27

I use Pares in Blackheath too-they have a great range.

ZolaPola · 26/04/2005 13:28

Fine - glad to have escaped the endless stretch of SE London and great to be on the verge of rolling countryside, but still really miss B'heath - village shops, gorgeous architecture and the heath! been back a few times though which was nice. Out west - life is.. different, more humdrum and grown-up somehow! How goes it for you? (sorry to hijack shoe thread, BTW)

motherinferior · 26/04/2005 13:28

Sadly, last time we went there wasn't anything for me, which I always consider the flipside of having annoyingly small feet.

dropinthe · 26/04/2005 13:31

I used to manage a bank in Blackheath and I too love the village-Pares is good but very strange manageress there!!

Twiglett · 26/04/2005 13:33

last time I went in the shoe shop in E. Dulwich they had the most adorable shoes for little girls .. Italian leather, bright colours, fabulous designs .... £50

£50 for a 2 year old's shoes????

Marina · 26/04/2005 13:33

The grown-up Pares round the corner has a cracking sale with loads of smaller adult shoes MI...not forgetting a dive in to Handmade Food for something tasty for lunch back home.
(fine, thanks ZP. Heck, I miss Blackheath and I am only down the road in exciting suburbia)

dropinthe · 26/04/2005 13:33

Re-names this thread...."All those who love Blackheath...."!

ZolaPola · 26/04/2005 13:35

ooh yes, funny how easier it is to appreciate it when no longer live there. BTW, Handmade food co have fudge to die for!

dropinthe · 26/04/2005 13:37

The Village Bakery-cakes to leave your dh for!!

Twiglett · 26/04/2005 13:38

I'll just get my coat, shall I?

dropinthe · 26/04/2005 13:39

Sorry-very much hijacked shoe thread here! Think it really depends on how much you are prepared to pay!

dropinthe · 26/04/2005 13:40

Most Ive paid is £42.00-nearly choked on my latte!!

Marina · 26/04/2005 13:40

I take it you are local dropinthe! (off-topic: If so, there is an excellent breastfeeding workshop run by a good counsellor weekly in a church hall on Westmount Road in Eltham... if this is any help at all, do you want me to try and find out more?)

Handmade Food did our wedding reception food not that long after Fergus opened up. It was fabulous
We still have the family's hair cut at Hext near the post office. Dreading the day Martin retires

Marina · 26/04/2005 13:42

Twig, why would you need to come all the way to Blackheath (or motherpeculiar either) for shoes when you have shared info about a good-sounding store much closer to her...
I always envy your patch. Every time I see an ad in SE Families for a good-looking course or event it is always in East Dulwich and you are near Bookseller Crow

dropinthe · 26/04/2005 13:45

My ds1 nursery is in Eltham so Westmount road vv good for me-any info greatly needed!

motherpeculiar · 26/04/2005 13:55

WOW - I turned around to wipe some baby puke from my shoulder and have a sandwich and get back to some great suggestions and the Blackheath appreciation society !!!

Will try the one in Lordship Land and maybe Websters in Brixton first - Pares sounds pricey and I'm a skinflint at heart . Although the fudge and cakes in Blackheath are almost swaying me....

Where on Lordship land should I be looking? (don't ever remember a kids shoe shop along there [scratching head emoticon])

Thanks everyone

Called John Somethingorother.

Twiglett · 26/04/2005 16:07

if you go up towards Soup Dragon its on the opposite side of the road and a little bit further up (towards the police station)

what you can do, is get child's feet measured there then pop along to the Clarks factory outlet in Peckham (always mean to do that but just end up buying them in the shop)
