Hi summ1
always good to hear of someone coming up to Merseyside. Can't help with the GP surgeries bit but my advice re hospitals would be go for Liverpool Women's Hospital - it is the specialist hospital and as it says caters only for women so great service (Well in my opinion anyway, through both fertility and now pregnancy treatment)
I have some friends over that way and will try to get some info for you - also it may help to know that we are trying to sort out a Mumsnet meet up for the Liverpool/Manchester area (see meetups thread).
Good luck.

AliP- Thanks for that, as I dont really know the areas any bit of info is great! It would be really helpful if you could get some extra info, any recomendations are a great help. I also put a message on the meetup thread but think the dates for the meetup will be a bit too close to my due date!! but will definatley keep an eye on the date of when you all meet up just in case I need some sanity time once we get there!!

Hi Summ1 and welcome,

Live nr Manchester rather than Merseyside so can't help in that but maybe we can initiate a different meet-up some other time as I'm due the 8th May and like you doubt if I'll beable to make the one being organised at the mo.

Hope all's well with your pregnancy, not long now.

summ1 - I don't live there anymore but still visit often. Would NOT recommend Arrowe Park for childbirth due to friends' experiences and bad reputation ... Good luck

summ1 · 21/04/2003 18:27

Ninja- That sounds like a good idea, as with moving to a new area so close to the birth it might take me a while to meet with other mums but im determined to meet new people. All has been fine with the pregnancy but its breech at the moment so midwife keeping an eye on that, im really worried though in case i have to have ceasarean. Hows your pregnancy been?
Tomps- Are my choice of hospitals just Arrowe Park and Liverpool womens? What happened with your friends?

excessive intervention mostly. And really poor after care. But that was some years ago, so definitely give them a visit. I'm not sure about hospitals over wallasey way, but I think arrowe park's the main one for the wirral. Anyway, I had emergency c-section for breach baby and had a really great (no honest !) experience, whereas friend also had c-section in same hospital and had awful experience, so it's a bit the luck of the draw. Have you thought about contacting a local NCT group in advance of your move ? Surely they'd be sympathetic to your situation and put you in touch with a group even if it's post-birth. Good luck anyway, I think the wirral's lovely and friendly, so hopefully you'll quickly find new mummy buddies ! Where are you moving from ?

Hi summ1, i am from the other side of the river but Arrowe park is the only mat hospital I know in the Wirral, apart from being a bit grotty looking it seem ok very strict visiting though. If you can I would suggest the Womens in Liverpool,I had Ds there and it was fab, lovely rooms amazing staff and so many options for the birth, they let you decide when you are ready to go home ect,I can't praise it enough.

tomps · 22/04/2003 20:58

ooh that sounds great - might relocate myself for the next one Would keep the grandparents happy anyway ...

Hi Summ1,

I'm really lucky and have pretty much had a textbook pregnancy (although including textbook sickness aches and pains!). Baby's all in the right position and has been 3/5th for nearly a month so I'll find out tomorrow (38 week check) if it's actually engaged now, it all feels very low.

Some days I just feel so big and full! It's good having mumsnet to read it makes it feel like I'm preparing in a nice way!

Good luck with yours, hope the little one's moving - you'll just have to scrub lots of floors!

marialuisa · 08/05/2003 14:55

Hi, we've just moved to the wirral, don't know about maternity at Arrowe park but there seem to be very long waiting lists for everything else. Also no NHS dentists!!

Do you want a day nursery or a nursery school for your 3 y.o.? We're in West Kirby at the moment but i've been round numerous playschools, daycare etc..

tomps · 24/05/2003 15:17

summ1 - how's it going ?
