hello. its been a long time since i have been on mumsnet. we are moving to sheffield over the summer for dh's new job, and thought i'd use mumsnet as a resourse if you don't mind. we are looking primarily at nether green catchment area as we visited the school and loved the headmistress. but was also wondering about living in brincliffe or kenwood/ sharrow?? are either of these family areas with any sense of community? would be great to get your ideas as we don't know any families in sheffield.

Hi, we're in Nether Edge - near Thornsett Road, drool at those houses when I walk past! Brincliffe is very nice, but like Nether Edge/Thornsett Road, dodgy school catchment area. (Oh, and I think Brincliffe is not really near any decent shops, and Chelsea Park has been being done up for 12mths now - disappointing atm but maybe in time... (Oh, some of Brincliffe might be Ecclesall Infants catchment - is there a link on the other thread to sheffield.gov.uk - can search via Education/our schools for catchment area of each street. Might be worth buying street map and getting a feel for some of the distances involved)

Beware with Clifford, this year it was not so hard to get into, last year apparently they had 26 siblings! Who'd have thought the CoE were at it like rabbits (I'm lapsed RC...) As I live in dodgy school catchment area - albeit great houses, lovely big gardens, shops etc short walk and great community - would still strongly recommend you to buy into decent catchment area. As you say, with £450K you are a buyers market!
