My boss has asked me to give her 3 suggesstions. She likes the idea of a silver bracelet but am struggling to find something that would suit all tastes.

Age rage from 19 years to 64!

Budget is £30 pp.

Ok
Give no gift just meal - everyone gets fed nice night out all leave on good terms.
Give gift -

bracelet - they'd rather have the money
vouchers - Asda and they'll be offended that you think they'll be out of work and need £ help with the shopping: John Lewis and they'll think 'what makes you think I'll be able to be shopping in John Lewis with no job?'

£30 each per gift they may think 'its ok for her to splash the cash around with her job safe' and feel belittled.

Whatever she does I think your boss can't win. However the meal is a lovely gesture and she can make a short speech/toast to all her lovely staff wishing them all the very best and thanking them for all their hard work and help.

I agree that if your boss really wants to give them something then vouchers are the way to go because they can be spent on something really useful as the money runs out.

I remember one year when I worked in the NHS that we were all given £25 M&S vouchers because we weren't getting much of a payrise - I know I wasn't the only one who thought "How can you afford this when you can barely afford to run the hospital?"

Primula, it is to make it fair for the people left at the end who potentially would have contributed to everyone else's leaving present, but there would be no-one left to buy one for them. After a certain date leaving collections were banned and staff could choose a gift from the catalogue instead.

In the initial discussions as to what the gift should be a company branded presentation plate as a momento was mentioned.

My response had the words "frisbee" and "window" in it.

That's why I'm going for a clarins voucher, so i get a nice facial but don't have to look at something every day that reminds me of being made redundant.

Company branded plate ...?!! Good god! I agree with your choice by the way - best thing you can do in situation like that

A very senior manager came up with that one. Just shows how far removed from reality they are!!
