Are you allowed to take motorbikes on bridleways. I was running on a b/w near me yesterday and this kid on a racing / scrambling style bike zoomed past.

I'm guessing that it's OK to take bicycles, but surely a motorbike isn't legal?

only if it's marked on the map as BOAT which stands for bridleway open to all traffic or something. they're rare but i have come across a few.

Depends,

Is it a BOAT (Bridleway open to other traffic), a RUPP (Road used as a public path I think) or only a bridleway? On an OS map is it only a dashed line or does the dashed line have crosses through it? If it's only a dashed line and it's only a bridleway then it is NOT open to motorised vehicles.

sorry it's a "byway open to all traffic" not bridleway - either way you can check it on an OS map.

Oops, I stand corrected Fluffles! ALL traffic would fit the acronym better!
