Whats the all time favourite weepie film that needs a man/child free house, favourite treat and/or alcohol and 2-3 boxes of kleenex? Nothing like a good sob when you know there's going to be a happy ending! Perhaps we could have a 'mumsnet-must-see' film lists!! do you find you cry more now you've had children?

When I was pregnant for the first time I found myself crying at the old Yellow Pages advert - the one where the woman watches the film of her dead husband and says 'he was a fine looking man, your dad'.Hormones I suppose. It's a Wonderful Life is great but my film vote goes to Kramer vs Kramer - great performance from the little boy and didn't he cry well?

I sobbed helplessly at The Iron Giant at the weekend.

The bit in Mrs Doubtfire when he stands up in court and says how he can't bear to live without seeing his children ... I never really got it until I had my own kids, but now it has both me and my husband sniffling.

I hate crying, and never knowingly watch a film or read a book that will make me cry. It makes me start thinking morbid thoughts, and then I can't stop crying for hours, red puffy eyes, unbearable headache... not worth the hassle! I watched Stepmom the other day (naively not realising it would be a weepy) and sobbed my heart out and then ended up thinking..... I am so much worse now that I have a child. When I was about 10 weeks pregnant it was the same time when Bianca in Eastenders had her pregnancy terminated due to some chromosone problem with the baby that was detected at her scan. God, I cried and cried and couldn't stop. Sometimes when I'm reading the paper on the train I have to hide behind the paper whilst tears roll down my face. I thought I was the only emotional wreck! If any of my colleagues could read this, they would be absolutely astounded, my exterior image doesn't reflect this!

Paula1, we must have children of the same age as I remember crying buckets over Bianca's termination when I was in the early stages of pregnancy. I was working away and my hubbie phoned one evening to find me absolutely inconsolable and unable to speak and tell him what was wrong! He nearly drove hundreds of miles to get to me but I managed to get my composure back just in time!

My weepie is Bambie, the bit at the beginning where he and his mum are running away, and he escapes thru' ahedge and turns around saying "mother, we've made it, mother..." and she's dead. I bought the film recently, but haven't felt strong enough to watch it!

Kia I agree about women ruling the world. When you hear President Bush spending billions on star wars warfare, with all the poverty in his country, it makes me sick. Its like in Ireland and Israel, I reckon if the arab and jewish mothers could sit together with their children at their feet, they wouldn't contemplate killing another parents child.
..I'm welling up already! Maybe men should be charged with crimes against humanity.

What about Black Beauty when Ginger dies? Or Ghost when the husband gets murdered and doesn't realise it?

I forgot all about Ghost! I'll have to watch that again now. Has anyone seen Crouching tiger hidden dragon? I was on the plane and had to do the old 'I'll just hold my magazine up to my face to stop the light' ploy! sobbed like a babe at the end! Both the kids and huntergatherer think it's hilarious. And yes, I can now admit that I was the woman in row 24 of Capt Corelli who sobbed out loud at one point!!

Brief encounter, (sad but true); Terms of endearment; Shadowlands; Jungle book, (when Baloo is thought to be dead); Beaches; Dumbo; Bambi and the episode of Rugrats when Tommy talks with his dad about his (gulp) deceased mother........and many, many more. Hard though it may be to believe, I don't actually enjoy sad films. I end up feeling weary and exhausted and, lets face it, as parents these are all too familiar feelings! So to distract myself, I'm off to watch the highlights of Graham Norton, oo..er.

I for one certainly cry more now that i have a child, the end of Breakfast at Tiffinys always makes me weep though, i know i'm a soppy old romantic! And the part where that huge man in the green mile was sent to his death by electric chair for a crime he did not committ was ultra tear-jearkingly sad.

I totally cry more since I had my little boy. When I was pregnant the SMA adverts where they sing 'take good care of my baby'used to have me really choked up.The Champ, Beaches and Dumbo are all just too sad!!I recently read a book called between two eternities about a baby in special care and when he died at the end i literally could not stop crying. It took me about an hour to pull myself together.DH was most concerned!!I also remember crying my eyes out as a child when the ghost of christmas future shows scrooge people celebrating his death in the musical of scrooge with albert finney. What a sap i am!!!

Gallipoli (with Mel Gibson) will guarantee heart rending sobs from me. It's the music that does it - Albioni's 'Adagio in G Minor'. I always said I wanted it to be played at my funeral but having viewed the other thread (on funerals), perhaps I should choose something a tad more uplifting!

THIS IS ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT BEING A WOMAN - THE ABILITY TO HAVE A BLOODY GOOD SOB!!!

I will cry at most things, peaking with crying at an Olympic Medal ceremony where I was inconsolable and England weren't even on the podium!! Pathetic really.

Top films for me have to be:- Mulan (where the whole of China sinks to their knees in front of her), The Green Mile (Tom Hanks), The Runaway Bride (sorry, but its true, I really loved that film), Steel Magnolias, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (where she was singing 'I will always love you'.....gahd), Who Will Love My Children (too much for even the most steely-hearted), Dumbo was too painful to even think about now, Bambi - DON'T DENY IT GETS US ALL WHEN HE'S LOOKING FOR HIS MUM, and last but not least Highlander (Who Wants to Live Forever song played over 'Blossom' getting older and dying).

Got....to....go....now....too......upset.....to......carry......on......sniffle.......whimper......sob

There are loads of great films mentioned on here! I watched The Family Man a while back (Nicholas Cage is very sexy) and that made me cry a fair bit.

I saw "Moulin Rouge" last night and it was fan-bloody-tastic! Very different, and the first 15 minutes are a bit disorientating (I felt a bit sick, the cameras were spinning around so much!), but it's just great. I can't really describe it, but I can say that Ewan McGregor is YUMMY, and he and Nicole Kidman sing v. well. GO AND SEE THIS FILM - it's well worth every penny.

Caught Meryl Streep on the Performance Channel on Sunday morning and one of her films they talked about was 'Sophie's Choice' and the harrowing scene of her having to choose which of her children to save from the gas chamber. I felt sick when I remembered the scene and know I would howl for hours if I watched that film again (as a Mother now). Makes me shudder.
Partner has just bought The Killing Fields on DVD which I never watched so I think I'll psyche myself up for that one at the weekend. Do you think it's unbearable (speaking about the girl here who went to see Philidelphia at the cinema and couldn't drive home for nearly half an hour from crying!)?

Endless Love & Dirty Dancing! "No body puts baby ina corner" this does make me laugh, but I cried through the rest.

The Killing Fields is one of my all time fav films. If you don't weep I'll eat my hat. It's all the worse for knowing it's a true story....Nearly told you the ending there but I'll keep quiet!

Best all time weepie has got to be True, madly, Deeply (Alan Rickman and....opps...can't remember the female lead). If you've ever been in love this is one to have you sobbing. Has a happy ending but not in the way you think...sort of bitter sweet.... Arrr makes me want to see it again!

Other than that I'll cry at anything at the moment (pregnancy hormones). Cried at the disney Tarzan film the other day when the mother gorilla saves the baby...Gotta go, going to start crying again at the thought!
