Help - Clothes needed for Chunky ds

I have just checked through my nine year old ds' wardrobe for the summer and he has one pair of shorts and no smart trousers that fit him. Where on earth can I take him to get him some clothes?? I measured him last night in the hope of ordering him some bits from Next Directory but according to his waist he is 16, his hips he is 14 but leg length he is only 12. He has no waist as such i.e. straight from chest to hips. Older boys clothes do not seem to come in elasticated waists which makes matters worse. I will take him to a Sports Soccer or similar to get him some casual stuff but where can I get him other stuff. The last few years we have holidayed in US and have always managed to get him kitted out there. Help!!

Jaybee, have a 7 yr old dd who is v similar. Only suggestion is Gap for jeans (& maybe trousers?) Also, Hennes (H&M) tend to be fairly generous in the waist for the girls sizes, not sure abut boys though. I'm dreading it when dd gets older, as she's in age 9 now, & you can just about find elasticated waists in that, but any older & you're struggling.

Jaybee, not going to be much help to you either. I have exactly the same problem with my 8 year old DS. He seems to be constantly wearing track pants and other casual clothes. Getting anything more formal is almost impossible. I have bought larger sized trousers and had them altered but it's just not the same. He has well outgrown ADAMS stuff (which used to be great when he was younger). As I live in Ireland any mail order suggestions would be great.

Lizann - I know just what you mean, a friend of mine has two ds', one the same age as my ds, they always look lovely in their Adams gear but ds grew out of them when he was 6. I probably have a pile of clothes at home that would fit your ds . I did think of Gap as we bought him some of their bits from America last year but I come out in a sweat at Gap UK prices, may keep an eye out for their sale - the only Gap factory outlet I know of is in Ashford which is too far away - anyone know of any others? I do like H & M especially for my dd but older boys stuff tends to be emblazoned (sp?) with logos etc. He does have a few bits from there so may head to Milton Keynes next week - it doesn't help that Next older boys stuff is never in the shops and only seems to be available via the directory - it is easier if he tries them on.
Why don't they make kids clothes in waist sizes and leg length??

I agree absolutely: the assumption seems to be that children come in one standard size and shape. I've got by with black jogging bottoms for primary school for my chunky ds, but come August I will be spending ages looking for 'proper' black trousers for him, none of which will fit

There are Gap Outlets at the Great Western shopping village at Swindon, and at McArthur Glen just outside York, if that's any help.

Well, we had a weekend trip to friends near Peterborough and myself and my friend had a trip out shopping WITH NO CHILDREN!! We left all five in the care of their Dads!! Bought several things for ds and they all fit!! Sports Soccer -casual bits (age 13-14), Gap Sale - shorts & combat trousers (age 16), H & M Shorts (size 158) - this child is 9!! Let's just hope no-one invites us to a wedding or anything where he will require smart gear!!
Copper - I think I have been to every shop to try and get school trousers that fit ds - best fits seems to be Tesco. However, they don't always stock them!!
