Websites for thoughtful gifts - where do you order from?

I often need to buy gifts for people and, since I am in the US, doing it online is often the easiest (and cheapest) way of sending something nice.

Other than the usual amazon type sites I am a bit stuck. I have Mothers Day and my Dad's birthday coming up, then my sister's birthday and I am already feeling stressed.

I have used:

Muddy Cook for interesting museli

Meg Rivers for cakes

My sister suggested biscuiteers but they are $$$

Links gratefully received.

TIA

i've done john lewis for hampers at christmas
trying to remember name of wine co we used
do you just want food or other things?

i usually think of what i would buy that person, then google that object (e.g. silk scarf) until i find a 'shop; that does it.

fortnum & mason do good hampers too!

SuperBunny · 04/03/2009 04:01

Anything would do.

My Dad is particularly awkward and impossible to buy for.

My sister is girly so likes anything pretty, chocolate, wine and food. Ditto mum.

John Lewis & F&M good ideas. Thanks.

Fab links, EachPeach - thank you so much!

I have often browsed on a quarter of but never thought to order as presents. I can be a bit dim.

I used a website called getting personal
[http://www.gettingpersonal.co.uk/personalised-books/personalised-rugby-book.htm here]
to get my dad, who is notoriously hard to buy for a book about the history of rugby (his passion). They have lots of other ideas on there as well, and delivered really quickly.

I use Bunches Florapost for flowers, better quality, longer lasting and cheaper than Interflora (and you get free chocolates lol)

LtEveDallas · 04/03/2009 05:01

argh, not enough brackets! here

EachPeachPearMum · 04/03/2009 05:03

mmmm chococo are fabulous!

Qally · 04/03/2009 05:21

Chococo are AMAZING. I love them so much that DH bought me a pyramid of boxes when I got pregnant. (Unfortunately I was so nauseous I couldn't even bear them in the house, so had to regift, but the thought was sweet!) They quite literally make your choc to order, and if you make special requests for box combinations (as in, dislike some and love others) they'll tweak the mix for you. I so hope they survive the crunch - a fab company.

I forgot Huset, if you're into Scandinavian design. If you have nieces or nephews Nordic Kids is fantastic but horribly expensive - Hedgepig have more limited stock but better prices, especially during sales. I love that the clothes for boys aren't all variations on khaki.

Qally · 04/03/2009 05:26

Huset is US, I forgot to say. (I'm in opposite situation to you.)

slightly random but a good fun ordering interface and unusual but very tasty gifts!

That scotch egg place looks wonderful - they even do veggie ones. I'm so hungry now.

Thanks for all the links. Have been happily browsing

good girly gifts

SuperBunny · 08/03/2009 00:57

Thank you so much. I think I have sorted all my gifts. It is ok to send my sister 6 scotch eggs for her birthday, isn't it?
