I mean, WTF! A huge disappointment when I saw it this morning. It used to be John Alderton doing all the voices. Pythonesque Dilys Price, Italianesque(?) Bella Lasagne and James and Sarah. It now has different voices for each character and has totally, IMO, lost it's charm.

It really is DIRE. I am so sad we have lost Dilwyn singing the theme tune and especially the wonky legs on Rosa the cat. And all of John Alderton's lovely voices....PontyPANTS more like

a big fave here at Enid Cottage - even the 'I'm too old for Cbeebies' 5 year old is gripped.

feelingold · 15/04/2005 10:01

I too think they have totally spoiled it, but the kids still seem to like it. My son doesn't seem to have noticed that voices have changed but he did have a problem knowing who was who in the first episode cos they look different, but he likes the new pump and helicopter. But he does want to know why it's not called firefighter Sam (my dh is a firefighter so he knows they are not called firemen any more, not politically correct).

Ds1 calls himself Fireman Sam and ds2 (21 months) now has to be called Elvis. I get told off if I don't call them by these names. Funny thing is, ds2 really suits the name Elvis! Oh, and I'm not Mummy anymore, I'm Station Officer Steele.

tortoiseshell · 15/04/2005 15:34

Puff - my ds too. And my rocking chair is not a rocking chair, it's Jupiter, and I'm not allowed to sit on it. Ds wears fireman uniform all day, and if we call him by name he says 'You mean Fireman Sam'. Apparently he is in Pontypandy helping Elvis, and is never comingback!

zubb · 15/04/2005 15:42

cod - it's Trevor Evans!
Saw the new one for the first time today. Ds1 is FS obsessed - we have the DVD. Like Puff and TS we have had to rename the boys as Sam and Elvis - I am Penny Morris Ds1 seemed quite happy with the new version luckily.

That sultry voice on Andy Pandy is Tom Conti I think.
DS loves Fireman Sam old or new, just stands there saying "oh WOW"

agree. swoon. Good hair too.

Allegra · 15/04/2005 18:34

DS2 asked why are they all talking English now which I thought was very observant of him since he was barely 3 the last time he saw it. I think it's not a patch on the old series but Ds's love it and its been a battle trying to get out to school on time this week. (I can't convince them the same story is on again at 4.30!)

bubble99 · 15/04/2005 20:26

It has lost all of it's charm. I used to love hearing John Alderton do all the different voices. James and Sarah particularly stretched his thesp. abilities and Dilys Price was my favourite. I know, I know, it's a childrens' programme Bubble, but each one was a mini masterpiece IMO and it makes me weep to think of John A reduced to end-of-pier pantos after the masterpiece that was..... Fireman Sam.
