Teenage girl sleepovers

Hi all, we are enduring one if these at the moment. I have called a halt to multiple friends sleeping over due to awfulness - girls shrieking/giggling/arguing/crying in the wee small hours - it is now limited to one friend at a time. What I would like to know is this - is is usual/normal for teen DD and friend to disappear upstairs for hours and hours, rolling their eyes in a "pissoff" manner at any adult that dares to ask if they want anything, then only appearing downstairs to eat a shed-load of carbs - pizza, chips, garlic bread and all the rest of the chocolate cake that was for tomorrow, then disappear upstairs again to do makeovers (smeared results left on the clean sheets and pillowcases) and watch terrifying films? They then will only come downstairs after DH and self have gone to bed. Generally, with about 3 minutes notice, the friend disappears the next morning with a glazed look after I have made a belated effort to "engage" with the poor girl.
I really like my teen DDs friends, and can chat happily with them in other situations, but they seem to become social pariahs once there is a sleepover in motion.
Is it just me, or am I doing something wrong?

my 12 year old is like this all the time! have you met her...

We are arranging a sleepover for her and 3 friends for next Friday... have never had one before, although she has been to quite a few lately...

do you let your dd and friends sleep upstairs in her room or do you let them sleep downstairs...

Sounds reassuringly normal to me.

Thank you PM, what a relief.
RumMum - 4!!! at a sleepover - you're brave. Quite honestly, with more than 1 friend, "sleepover" is a misnomer - "stayawakeallnightandfeelcrapinthemorningover" is more like it!
TBH, if they will sleep anywhere, I would be grateful. Some may crash in the bedroon (eventually) and some in the sitting room. Just don't expect to use the sitting room the next morning as it will be full of groaning adolescents, for hours
Good luck

Hmm - bedroon sounds like some sort of ancient coin! You know what I meant!

mine are like this, and they get worse the more that they have.

I have had 15 sleepover before now, and they all just seem to live on carbs and junk, plus the caffiene loaded pop, followed by ice cream and popcorn and scary movies and ghost stories!!!

I stay out their way now, ever since the memorable sleep-over on DD1s 12th bithday when they told each other the candyman story.

they were all in the lounge that night, and I went down at midnight to tell them all to settle down, of couse not realising the 'candyman' story was doing the round.

you have never heard such a racket before..........they all thought I was the candyman coming to get them, and one poor girl was so scared she wet herself!

hasn;t put any of them off tho.............I had half the scout troup here on HSM3 premier night (16 girls and boys). the only rule now is no candyman stories

it does get better tho. they do talk once they have been hee more than twice......they get to know me better then

RumMum · 28/02/2009 20:24

at wetting herself.. [mean emoticon needed]

psychomum5 · 28/02/2009 20:37

I know. Poor girl was motified, but it was all I could do not to laugh out loud.

it hasn't been forgotten, and luckily she can see the funny side now..........and yes, she has slept over again

HappyCrappy · 28/02/2009 21:07

psychomum5 - you sound really nice - you must be because this poor girl has slept over again. The wetting must have been noticeable to all
PS - I have had "engagement" with DD and friend - chatting, joking just like the usual chat I have with teen friends. This one can come again!
