Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I am not sure were to put it.

I am in shock and need advice. I was driving slowly along a narrow road which I use all the time, there are often cars parked along one side and you often need to stop to let cars pass.

A car came towards me (too fast) and I scraped my car off a wall and knocked the wing mirror off. I was forced over.

The other car drove on, the stopped then drove off. The thing is I am pretty sure I know who the person was driving the other car.

What should I do?

Report it to the police as you would for any car accident involving another car (you need a police incident number to get insurance companies to pay out) and give them the details of the other car (if it hit you). If it didn't hit you, I suspect the car insurance company will argue it was your driving (my BIL had someone pull out into him but they claimed it was his fault for driving down the road...). As for knowing the other person, see if they comment. You might not be able to do anything but it'd probably help your sanity (and to decide whether they're nice or not).

Speak to the police. If the car didn't hit you then technically, they have no obligation to stop. You can report them for driving without due care and attention. My friend did this when someone was sitting on her bumper and driving badly. Case went to court and the person was found guilty.

Contact you insurance and start the process of getting your car sorted. Unless they agree to chase the other person, then it'll affect your NCB. You'll also be unable to claim back your excess.

I hope you're feeling alright.

Have a cup of tea and relax.

This kind of accident would normally be treated as a 'no fault' event - esp if in a country lane with no witnesses. It would be his word vs yours.

I would pause too before calling either police or insurance company. You will lose your no-claim bonus and this could cost you more in long run than cost of repairs. If it was me I would just go get it fixed - but tomorrow, not today. I would try to chill today.

As for person driving car I would have strong words with them myself and if they were speeading ask them to contribute toward costs, but then I am quite a fierce person. If you are nto such a person might be easier to just leave it

Did you have right of way? are there any witnesses? if so report to police, if not i dont think there is much you can do tbh

Make a cup of tea with plenty of sugar, sit down for a while, hope your ok

Get a quote for how much it'll cost to fix your car from a good bodyshop and then decide if you need to contact your insurer. It may be cheaper than paying excess and losing any No claims you've built up.

Thank you all. I am relaxing until DH comes home and we can decide what to do.
