I HATE my laminate floor

Anyone else ?? I can never get it looking clean and smear free, every blo*dy claning mop thingy I get is rubbish. Even mops are rubbish as they leave streaks. Im doing a spring clean and just given myself RSI trying to get this stooopid flat spnge wonder thing from vileda to go accross the floor. Anyone else got a wonder thing they use that works well??

Wish Id put down real wood now !!

Don't like mine much either. Brought the cheap stuff and it has chipped in lots of places.

I also have brought countless contraptions to keep it clean, and have given up. Now i vac it and then get down on my hands and knees and wipe it.

I still like the fact that i can get spills up so easily though. If we had had carpet it would definatly be wrecked by now.

Yeah would not have carpets downstairs, what with thrown food and all !!!!.

Hands and knees corrr , think we have 55 sq metres to clean !!!!!!!!!

I get down on hands and knees too - doesn't actually take that long if done every other day or so - just a quick swipe, and our whole downstairs is laminated. Feel quite satisfied when it's all done. I much prefer it to carpet.

Um... I've never noticed smears or streaks on any of the laminate flooring I've had. Maybe I just have low standards...

Actually it doesn't all need to be cleaned every time - just the areas of most usage.

you can get cleaner specially designed for laminate floors. i am not too sure if they are streak free though, but if they are for laminate it may be worth giving it a try

think its because the kitchens open plan into conservatory and all the light shines on floor and isnt very kind !!!

What do you use jay cloths and hand and knees technique !!??

I wash mine with pledge soapy wood cleaner in a bucket & with a mop.

I wash a bit then dry it with a dry t-towel it's the only way i can get rid of the smears. I have laminate in my through lounge , kitchen , downstairs toilet , hall , conservetory & in both my childrens rooms! To do all this it will take me 30mins which isn't do long & does look great when i'm finished!

When i just had ds(& had more time on my hands!)i would clean my floors minimum every other day. Now it's once/week with a touch up on the areas where the light shines!

Have to agree with the others , if i had carpet it would be wrecked.

We use a light spray laminate cleaner or just a light spray of water before the Vileda. You should use minimal liquid apparently and sweep along the "grain".

Mine's fine - I just run my squirty mop doodah round it. I think you're looking at the floor too much, melsy.

thats the problem LIZS there is no grain !!! I made a BIG booboo with the choice of floor its all smooth , so shows up everything!!

Your right moo , spent to many hours in today, gone into mad cleaning mode suddenly.

laminate floor wash and shine from Lakeland (of course) is good. (Of course you will have to spend about £100 on other stuff once you start though )

Rubbing along the planks (even though you have no grain) will at least make sure any marks there are all go the same way.

(NB I don't clean with it, I clean with Flash or something and then go over it with the Lakeland stuff for a nice finish.)

(About twice a year as a rule )

I was using the term "grain" in the lossest sense of the word ie the visual grain not actual texture ! I had assumed that it was a thin veneer backed onto mdf and sealed on top so when I asked the fitter how to look after it , should I use Pledge woodwash for example, he laughed and told me it was only a photocopy of wood and bore no relationship to the original !! Washing it makes it more slippery.

That is so true, Jan, I am desperate for an E-cloth now from lakeland but daren't start shopping (I always have to spend at least £45 to get the free gift and P&P). But I do need a new egg poaching pan too as I killed mine yesterday (boiled it dry and melted all the little cups).
