Inappropriate Party Entertainers

Went along with my son to a school friend's 3rd birthday party this afternoon and came back irrate and in disbelief. As a teacher ( and of course parent) I am VERY aware of what I would consider inappropriate talk and behaviour around children especially young ones.
The entertainer (male in his early 40s-I'm guessing!) was AWFUL, offensive and inappropriate! He had little or no control over the children. Thought it was suitable to make farting noises down a microphone to the children and told the children to lie down on the floor (to choose a winner- Don't ask!) While they were there he said several times "Oo I can see lots of wiggling um bums" He even pat a few. I was SO shocked. The other parents were oblivious and spent most of the party talking to eachother but since my DS was unsure at first(thankfully!) he sat on my lap watching.
At one point a little girl got up, showed him her bottom (she was wearing tights that had a bear on) and he commented "Ooo I can see a bear bum!"
He was also a bit too touchy feely with the kids for my liking. After all I can't even pat a child on the shoulder!

I'm sure that the host parents spent quite a lot of money on the party and well I'm speechless.

I would hate to veto my DS's parties based on whether this entertainer is there. Not that the other ones I've seen are much better. But it really concerns me? Comments greatly fully received...

I don't think i would find this offensive tbh.
He was making noises that i guess most 3 year olds would find funny as my dd does ( toilet humour and finds it very funny)
The little girl was showing him her bottom in innocence so not sure what you mean about that.
Yes agree the patting their bottoms was inappropriate but i guess he thought as parents were present it was ok! poor judgement rather than anything sinister though.

It's sad really as a teacher that things have become so stringent where giving hugs / pats etc and such is looked upon as innapropriate.

I once took my ds to a 6 year olds' birthday party and the entertainers were a couple of ropey middle-aged blokes fire-eating. They were utterly crap at it and the floor was swimming with petrol - there were kids skidding around everywhere. The kids were awestruck, thought it was fantastic, but most of the mums were sat open mouthed in shock. None of us wanted to be the first one to get up and walk out in horror so we all just sat there and cringed till it was over. Lots of bedtime lectures that evening, I fancy.

The petrol experience sounds dreadful

But OP, my DS would love an entertainer who farted and talked about bums, etc

I agree with you Frontenac, though sometimes it can be hard to give hard examples of what you mean.
I went to a 4 yo's party once with my DS and the entertainer kept on making jokes that were aimed at the adults. ANd continued to make remarks to the adults all the way through. Bloody unacceptable.
We have recently booked an entertainer for my DD's 4th birthday. We are very lucky in that she works at my DD's pre-school, but also does parties at the weekend. She is brilliant, and great with the kids.

bloody party entertainers.
Honestly ime they are more trouble than they are worth. I suppose I am luck in this but I use to make the kids 'do it themselves' i.e. one theme was Star Wars they came dressed up and I served green spagetti on on toast and they just re enacted all of the films. One theme was the spinning top thingy forget the name now and they had a 'championship' with two chalk boards and a grand final with me handing out medals to All. One was a 'chocolate' party although don't htink that was too popular with other parents when handing over their 'hyper' offspring. Football party at the local rec.
The only 'entertainers I've come across have been the jaded hasbeen types who either scare or can't engage the children and quite frankly they then get bored and do their own thing anyway so it's a waste of money. god just thinking of the great K9 hire disaster when dc was 5.
Also I didn't buy into the competing thing. I found that the kids had a fab time whatever they did because it was not so structured as a school environment so they could have fun.

Just read my post and I think I have just come across as a right sanctimonius cow.
Sorry but these 'entertainers' get to me. I think they are a con to frank but maybe I havn't come across any good ones yet.
