They will have no playtimes or lunchtime outside. I feel so sorry for my 5 yr old as I only persuaded him in with the idea that he could play with his friends in the snow. (all the other schools near heres are closed) I wish I had kept him in. Its only once every 10 years or so where I live.

I complained but they quoted the health and safety line. My husband teachers at a school in the same borough but they let their kids play.

I will! Am getting very bolshy now. As a teacher I was trying to be really supportive of the school and ignore some of its crap-ness but now feel more like complaining. Next target asking why the bought in PE teaching people ("fit for sport") think dancing along to the macarena and others is an appropriate dance lesson. I know they have to learn a dance as well as do expressive dance but the cha cha slide!!!

Ours was very slippery in the playground today so they weren't allowed on it

He is going to come home mad as a gibbon, I just know it. Grrr I hate school.

ours wasn't even slippery as it was lovely virgin snow as the school closed yesterday.

As they closed the entrance where you cross the playground we all fell over loads on the icey pavements walking the long way round!

Ours was closed. But I can guarantee they would have been banned from the playground because of the snow.

So all the school were closed and where were all the pupils? In the park - hundreds of them, building snow beasts, having snowball fights. Me too! Bloody good fun, exercise and fresh air.

Sadly I know have a houseful of wet cold children to feed only 3 of whom are mine

Mad - dc's school had the few that went yesterday playing outside, were closed today but we're asked to send in suitable shoes and clothes for outdoor play tomorrow. There's acres of untouched snow , way too tempting !

UnfortunatelyMe · 03/02/2009 20:28

My dds school had about 10 pupils per class(usually nearer 30), no hot dinners and they took then up to the school field to make snowmen!

nannyL · 03/02/2009 20:31

heakth and safety banned my charge from palying in the snow too

i think its rediculouse

Bramshott · 04/02/2009 12:30

Do the kids all have wellies in school? The snow here is about 20cm deep so I can't imagine the schools (if they were open) letting the kids play out in it without wellies - they'll get cold and wet and freezing! Okay if you're at home and can take wet clothes off and dry them, but you can't do that in a school.

clayre · 04/02/2009 12:38

when we had heavy snow before xmas the schools didnt closes they let the kids out to play at playtime and my dd ended up with a split head, it is a health and safety issue

MrsWeasley · 04/02/2009 12:42

Our primary school won't go out for play in the snow but because of the risk.
Also if kids get wet (which they will) they have to stay in those clothes all day.

Head Teacher arranges a "play" at 2.30 just before hometime

Infants school play outside in the snow and have a great time.

chloesmumtoo · 04/02/2009 12:54

To be honest our school was closed yesterday, so dc's had fun out then. I actually hoped ours wouldnt be allowed out today when school was reopened. Was very icey/slippery and slushy this morning and I agree they will get soaked, slip over and excited all in one. Not a good combination.

RubberDuck · 04/02/2009 12:57

Aww... that's so sad.

Our school didn't close during the snow, but did get the kids geared up in the forest school gear (wellies and all-in-one waterproofs) and took them out to make snow angels which they all thought was FAB

Feel sorry for all the kids at killjoy schools
