Get those dissolving tablets from any supermarket - I can't remember what they're called - Whoosh or Erupt or something. Thye come in a little box. V effective. Use two at once if v bad.

if not really bad, pour some vinegar down and leave overnight before scrubbing.

cillit bang is the BEST we've got v hard water and it works on everything from sinks ,taps,toilets and whatever else !!!!! hope that helps!!!!

The best product that actually works (I've tried loads)... is Power Shower. You can get it in Sainsbury's.

I tried Cillit Bang last month and was completely dissapointed in comparison to Power Shower.

oohh.. haven't tried it on the loo (should read the beginning shouldn't I), but it's fabulous on my shower doors, taps and sinks.

Agree that cillit bang is great for limescale on sinks, shower etc. You have to make sure it's the one with the pink top. As the green top is a degreaser rather than a limescale remover.
But for toilet the best thing i have found, and I'm in a hard water area too, is the tesco own brand toilet tablets. If you can leave in overnight they do a great job.

White vinegar, soak with cotton wool etc and place it in the place you need to clean. Leave for a good few hours, it worked on mine.

But whatever you don, don't mix bleach with any of the other products listed here. You can get an unpleasent chemical reaction.

OK I had to do this last week and it is a naff job. Firstly I emptied ou the water - what I find is that if it is REALLY bad the products are too disolved in the water. Runbber gloves and a small pastic cup does the trick (I even sponge out as much as possible that I can't get by the cup) Then I use Viakal - and lots of it. Leave it overnight and then scrub. Mine was really brown and when I tried other methods I was still almost chipping off the limescale in chunks. This way worked great for me.

If all else fails, get a bottle of spirits of salts from a DIY store. Use extreme care - it's concentrated acid. Use a brush to pump most of the water out of the toilet and then, with great care and using rubber gloves and if possible eye protection, pour the s of s round the bowl. Leave a few minutes then flush. Be careful not to inhale the fumes. Keep children away.

It'll get anything off a toilet bowl.

I have an admission. Kayleigh - realised that I'd managed to buy the degreaser Cillit Bang, no wonder I was dissapointed. Doh!

limelite is the only thing that works for us, and only takes a couple of minutes

Okay, tried limelite, it's helped a bit but it made me go dizzy, which as I'm bfeeding worried me. As the main problem is in an area that isn't under water I'm going to try the vinegar next!
