Puncture - accident or deliberate ?

how possible is it to get a screw embedded in the outermost tread of a tyre by accident ? Came out of work to find a flat tyre, apparently caused by a screw partly but firmly in the outer side of the tyre, just where the tread finishes. No sign that the head of the screw had been in contact with the road as it was still flat and shiny and it looks straight.

Do you have any reason to think anyone would do this deliberately?

A couple of thoughts if you don't have reason to expect someone....

When the car is very ladden the outermost part of the tread would be on the ground.

Could have been in a gutter and pushed into wall of tyre against curb.

There were teenagers hanging around the car park . Damaged tyre is onthe side away from the building so less obvious. Car has not been especially ladened recenlty. Usually it is only me driving, plus kids on school run, and it is a small car. Drove from home to work this morning, (half a mile or so, it was raining and blowing a gale ). A couple of doors down are having work done so maybe a rogue screw left in gutter. I took pics just in case. dh has to take it to Kwikfit tomorrow as spare isn't a full wheel so will see what they say. Such a pita

dh has gone off to Kwikfit to get the wheel fixed. Why do newer cars not have a full size spare?
