my 5 year old is costantly starving hungry what could it be bordem,a growth spurt that has lasted for three weeks or should I treat him for worms or is that just an old wives tale.He has no other symptoms of worms what do you think?

jobey, I have a four year old DS who is just the same, I have often wondered if he is bored, he has these hungry stages that go on for weeks, then just as you are getting the hang of it and buying in loads more fruit etc he's not bothered anymore. With no other symptoms I would doubt it is worms, but don't really know enough about them to comment. Loads of sympathy though, it's enough to drive you mad at times!

my ds age four and a half is the same. Some days he keeps on non stop for more food. Although i have noticed with the better weather that now he is in the garden a lot, which he loves, he tends not to keep asking for food. I think a lot of it was boredom when we were stuck in the house all day. If he says he's hungry i usually say "ok, i'll make you a sandwich" or i offer fruit. if he says no i know he's just after biscuits or snack stuff and is trying it on. if he says yes i know he's really hungry !

I have all too much recent experience of worms. They didn't seem to make DS hungry.
I'm beastfeeding, so am ravenous anyway, so can't really say for sure.
jobey, I think if he had worms, you'd be able to see them. They are easy to see around a 5yrold's bum. (Sorry, but that's how it is.)!

Or even breastfeeding.

Come to think of it, perhaps I was right the first time!

all the 5yr old boys i know are constantly hungrt, they are all different shapes and sizes, all have varying levels of exercise/activity yet they are all constantly hungry,i really dont think its anything to worry about.thread worms(which make their bottoms itchy do not make you hungry,an old wives tale pertaining to tapeworms)i just know that i remember my mums friends all saying that boys eat you out of house and home!(whilst us girls have sparrow like appetites!yeah, right!!)

example:it is 8am,since 7am my 5yr old son has eaten 2 rice cakes and ham,2 rounds of toast,a huge bowl of porridge, and has just said"mum im so hungry"!!

Apparently quite often hunger and thirst are confused - you could try giving him more to drink.

My 3yo dd is just the same at the moment - this morning she had 2 bowls of cereal, 2 yoghurts and a banana - this was all before nursery. She is always hungry but is surprisingly tiny (wish I had her metabolism!). I was thinking it could be boredom, growth spurt or that she is actually not eating much at nursery. She is exactly he same when she gets home! The nursery assure me she does eat. Who knows - better than not eating!

I agree with you shelleyb my 5 year old always seem to be hungrey although if he's busy and active i have to make him sit and eat.
