Should I do my driving test in my own car or my instructers car?

I am nearly ready to put in for my driving test and can't decide whether to do my test in my car or my instructers.
My car is old and quite a bit more difficult to drive than my instructers nice new car, but feel I may be more comfortable in my own car, own territory and all that. It would also be much cheaper as I wouldn't have to pay to hire the instructers car. On the other hand like I said before my car is much older and it is like turning a ships wheel to turn a corner! Really can't decide what to do?

Instructors car.

It will be looked on more favourably, its safer etc etc

Don't you have to take your test in a car that the tester would be able to control if necessary? (ie dual controls)

I'd always assumed so anyway!

instructors car

No, i looked on the DSA website and you can do it in virtually any car as long as you are on the insurance and it is taxed and MOT'ed.

Whichever you think you drive better.

Instructor's car - for my mums 2nd (?) driving test the car (instructor's) broke down. Meant there was no problems with getting some free lessons for the 3rd test.

do it in the car that you have driven the most and are most familiar with - more importantly, do it in the one that is less likely to stall on a hill-start.
good luck!

Hello
I just passed my test 2 months ago, I would agree with the other posts here that advise using your instructors car
The examiner will feel more relaxed in a dual control car, and if it handles better your manoeuvres will be better too
Good luck, I sat my test 3 times and found that having morning sickness and feeling generally rubbish made me forget my nerves which had been the problem before!

Instructor's car. I got hit by another car on my test (not my fault so I still passed!), think it would have completely thrown me if it had been my own car!

Instructors. You'd need to fit one of those mirrors that lets them see if you're looking in your mirror. If that makes sense. Less hassle.
