I have name-changed for this for personal reasons, I haven't been on MN for a while but have posted a lot in the past. I'm currently doing a business course and have to do some proper market research into a part time business idea. I have been so busy over Christmas that I haven't got around to it yet, and I need to present my findings this Thursday!!

So, I'm asking (begging really!) you helpful folk to please answer the following 7 questions for me, if you would

Thank you soooo much!! You can either copy & paste questions into your response, or just put the question number with each answer. Thanks again

  1. Have your children had their faces painted before? YES or NO
  1. If you answered YES, was this:
a) a good experience (please state what you/your child liked about it) b) a bad experience (please state what you/your child disliked about it)
  1. If you answered YES to Question 1, what sort of event were you attending at the time? (e.g. birthday party, festival, etc.)
  1. Was there anything you feel the facepainter could have offered to make the experience better?
Examples: dressing up box/toys for children waiting their turn, temporary tattoos, glitter gel, anything else...
  1. Would you consider booking a professional face painter for a childrens' party? YES or NO
  1. Would you consider booking a professional face painter for an adults' party? YES or NO
  1. How much would you EXPECT to pay for a professional face painter to attend your event (please choose):
a) £5 - £15 an hour b) £15 - £25 an hour c) £25 - £40 an hour d) £40+

Thank you! x

  1. Yes

2a Started good dd looked fab and ended up on front page of local paper article about fun day
b Ended bad - we discovered the next day she was highly allergic to face paint

  1. NCT Family Fun Day
  1. Option of patch testing/information about allergies - may not have made a difference. At birthday parties dd feels left out so yes option of temporary tattoos or offer to use dd's own hypo allergenic stage make-up would help her feel included.
  1. No for obvious reasons but I would to help backstage at our drama shows.
  1. No
  1. B approx £20 per hour

I can give you a v quick response, but not sure it'll be v helpful!

  1. No.

(Both my children look at me like I'm utterly mental if I suggest they might like to have their faces painted, I'm afraid! Good luck with it though! Maybe you could do adults - I'd quite like mine done sometimes!)

Plonker · 06/01/2009 00:23

YES
  1. If you answered YES, was this:

Different events: Galas, birthday parties, festivals, funfair ...
  1. Was there anything you feel the facepainter could have offered to make the experience better?
Yes. Perhaps taking a ticket and coming back at turn would be helpful. Like when queuing at Clarks
  1. Would you consider booking a professional face painter for a childrens' party?
Yes
  1. Would you consider booking a professional face painter for an adults' party?
No
  1. How much would you EXPECT to pay for a professional face painter to attend your event (please choose):
£10 an hour for a party £2.50 per child if at a gala, festival etc
zaphod · 06/01/2009 00:39
  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. Birthdays, and festivals
  4. Yes, some witty banter with the child being painted and the kids in the queue.
  5. No. I am a facepainter/party entertainer so would do it myself.
  6. No
  7. Between £25 and £30 is the least that I would expect per hour. £2.50 a face at events, though I know some people charge much more.

Athough I wouldn't hire a facepainter, I do find that adults with some alcohol in them quite like to have their faces painted. Men favour Spiderman and Pirates, women like butterflies......

purlease · 06/01/2009 00:51
  1. Have your children had their faces painted before? NO
I have come out in a rash from make up and DD has reacted to sun cream so I'm not taking any chances
  1. If you answered YES, was this:
a) a good experience (please state what YES or NO

you/your child liked about it)
b) a bad experience (please state what you/your child disliked about it)

  1. Was there anything you feel the facepainter could have offered to make the experience better?
Examples: dressing up box/toys for children waiting their turn, temporary tattoos, glitter gel, anything else...

if a face painter is being provided at a party it might be worth considering children with allergies - something else for them to feel they are being included. I'm guessing waiting time can be an issue as well

Purlease.

If you do want to try your dd with face paint do a patch test in the crook of her arm. This is a sensitive area but if she reacts won't be as visible as on her face and should be fairly short lived.

purlease · 06/01/2009 13:57

so far she's not been interested in having it done. in fact she threw a wobbly when one of the carers at nursery had a shamrock painted on her face for St Patricks Day - wouldn't go near her despite the fact that up to then this was her favourite carer whom she hugged and kissed every evening.

Will bear in mind crook of arm test if she does show an interest in the future.

  1. If you answered YES, was this:
a) a good experience (daughter loved getting her face painted and sat very still, surprisingly)
  1. If you answered YES to Question 1, what sort of event were you attending at the time? village fete, fundraiser, party
  1. Was there anything you feel the facepainter could have offered to make the experience better?
anoption of temporary tattoes would be good, as my son does not like getting his face painted but loves tattoos. Queues are often large for face painting so some form of entertainment would be good, or perhaps a ticket system to save small children from having to stand in line for a long time

  1. Yes
  1. a) Ds liked it and went around trying to scare people with his monster face. He was a bit disappointed that it did not scare them enough!
b) Dd did not like it - she does not like getting her clothes dirty and some of the paint came off on it and she did not like the feel of it on her face.
  1. Have had it done both at a fete and a party.
  1. Engaged more with the child and asked just how scary they wanted to be and how long their fake teeth should be etc. Props would be good too.
  1. No - too much potential mess
  1. No.
