So, my dd's pre-school is having a quiz night. I've volunteered to sort the questions> but the pre-school manager says the cost of the ticket suggested by the committee is too much (£5 per person) so could it be cheaper and we do a raffle Raffle isn't going to happen as we have a couple of weeks to pull prizes together and I think we've asked for too many from the parents before christmas(only a small pre-school, around 35 children)

So, where I need help. I found a thread on here suggesting doing envelopes to raise some extra cash, along the lines of number envelopes all who want to join in chuck £1 in the envelope, one choosen to 'win' and wins half the cash, pre-school'd get the other half. Simple!

Does anyone have any other suggestions of things we could do at the quiz night to raise a bit of cash, without asking for donations for 'stuff'?

We thought of doing a fish and chip run or similar but decided against that.

They did a race night at ds's old school, there are places that sell racing tapes, you pop it on and people place bets on who wins. You could also have a casino night.

Heads and tails

Everyone that wants to play pays £1. All stand and choose heads or tails (hands on head/bum) Host flips a coin and all sit down if chosen wrong. Keep going until one person left (everyone can change their choice in between flips), they win cash prize/bottle wine/chocolates, rest goes into fundraising pot

Always goes down well

I was going to suggest selling envelopes but I see you have that idea already.

(idly wonders if it was me who suggested it on the thread you read since it is about the only suggestion I ever come up with anyway )

it was you stg!!!!!!!!!!!!

heads and tails is on that thread too. Maywell try both actually. We do have a couple of prizes left over from Christmas.

any other suggestions? it's a tricky one i think. basically trying to make money from nothing!

I did think maybe a star question with the entrants paying a £1/50p and whoever wins gets something. would have to be a good question though!! or maybe a bonus round for an extra £1?

oh I don't know

Our local pub quiz sells raffle tickets to enter the play your cards right game.

One person's number is pulled out and then they guess higher or lower and if they get 6 right then they win the money collected. If they lose then it rolls over, but you could always keep it.

The same pub also plays card bingo. They have a large number of packs of playing cards shuffled and divided into sets of 13 (they have the pack number written on the back to prevent cheating) then the caller has a large set of cards and reads out a number at a time. When one of the cards you hold is called out then you turn it over or put it down.

The winner is the first to get rid of all of their cards. It's quicker than normal bingo, you can reuse all the stuff and sometimes if the quiz is going quicker than usual we can all pay a pound and have another game.

What about a simple pool?
50 squares on a sheet, numbered 1-50. Each square costs £2 (or whatever) Player writes name and phone number on square. Number pulled out of the hat on the night wins £50, £50 goes to the pre-school.
If you set it up early enough, you can sell squares to parents who can't make it to the quiz night.

Eddas · 05/01/2009 17:20

that's another good idea, means we can get a few quid in guilt money for parents not able to make it

Morning some great ideas on here thankyou (I am the preschool chairperson for the school Eddas mentioned ) thankfully I set myself a target of £1000 to raise from October 08 to July 09 and we managed £508.90 at christmas nativity/bazaar plus bagged a donation from my work of almost £400 so not tooo short of my target but want to make it a good night so parents will become more friendly with each other and in theory will support preschool a bit more, thankyou for the ideas so far......keep them coming
