You can use this website and get basic details for free:

www.192.com

jollyoldstnickschick · 29/12/2008 18:40

I dont know if you have to pay- but in the past ive rung funeral directors and asked a question to ascertain (sp) if it was the person i know- for example did she come from a certain area /is her mum called xxx?.

NAB3lovelychildren · 29/12/2008 18:47

I tried 192 but the info I did get I am not sure enough to pass on the message and would hate to tell someone this person is dead when they are not.

Could you try obituaries in local paper around the time you think it happened?

NAB3lovelychildren · 29/12/2008 19:22

just registered on a site that took me there from the death list and it is only an electoral roll. He is listed so that is good but now it is looking like it might be the DC that has died. Can anyone please help me or at least find a site that I can check properly b ut doesn't cost ££££? TIA.

Jbck - how do I check local obituaries?

OP posts:
NAB3lovelychildren · 29/12/2008 19:34

why does everything have to be so complicated?

OP posts:
beanieb · 29/12/2008 19:38

The electoral register is not updated regularly so even if he is on the list you accessed it only means he was alive when that list was compiled.

I'm a bit confused about what you need the information for though? You want to contact someone or you want to find out if the person in the death list is the person you think they are somehow?

NAB3lovelychildren · 29/12/2008 19:39

I was trying to find an old friend and was shocked to see they had a death listing. If they have died I would want to send a card and there is a mutual friend I would tell.

Ah, right. I am not certain how the electoral register would help, you need his parent's address?

NAB3lovelychildren · 29/12/2008 19:50

the electoral roll wasn't where i thought the link was taking me. he is listed so i am hoping that means he is okay but now i am worried it might be one of the children

this is my new worry now

I don't think the voter's roll would help as he could have opted out of the version on 192 as I'm sure it's the edited one they publish & not the full list. Most councils now update their roll on a monthly basis but it still wouldn't really let you know if they were dead.

If you know the name of the local paper try keying that in & see if you can check obituaries online.

Is there no other person that you're in touch with that'd know if it was him or a family member? Is it very recent or do you not know that much?

NAB3lovelychildren · 30/12/2008 07:18

I tried the local paper on line. I could just write to the address but I would rather be forewarned to be honest. Will have to have a think about what to do. Thanks.

When was the death listed for -- very recently? This year? Last year?

The current electoral roll will have been compiled probably around mid-2008 sometime and will reflect people who were alive then.

NAB3lovelychildren · 30/12/2008 10:22

I couldn't see a date for the death. It just said there was a listing linked to his name in deaths.

Found out in a similar way my mother had got married.

PortAndStilton · 30/12/2008 10:39

What said there was a listing linked to his name in deaths?

When was the last time you know this person was definitely alive?

You could search the Probate Calendars, but you can't do that online so would have to go to a Probate Registry orpay someone to do it for you.

NAB3lovelychildren · 30/12/2008 10:41

It listed births, deaths and marriages and said there was one list for death.

It is quite a few years ago that I know for sure he was alive.

I have access to the electoral register.

where is the death list from?

PortAndStilton · 30/12/2008 10:46

Right, so this is a listing of birth death and marriage registrations? Like on Ancestry or something?

Is the area right? If it's a recent listing the index entry would give age, too.

If you're prepared to cat/email me ([email protected]) the name then I can email you back the age in the death index, which should give you an idea.

NAB3lovelychildren · 30/12/2008 11:12

this is the site I joined. I should have read it properly as I now see the one to access deaths is further down.

You can view the electoral roll free at any local library

NAB3lovelychildren · 30/12/2008 11:50

What I don't understand is who the death is if he is listed and his wife's name is underneath. It makes me worry it is one of the children.

Port - I have emailed you. Thank you.

OP posts:
PortAndStilton · 30/12/2008 12:52

I haven't got the email. But then all the old email on that account appears to have vanished too . Could you try resending?

NAB3lovelychildren · 30/12/2008 13:31

Don't worry. Shoshe managed to check it out for me and it isn't my friend. Thank you anyway.
