My mum's negihbour's little girl is 8 months and spends all day in a walker (which IMO is wrong). Mum rang last night to say that she had seen her with a slice of pizza (not homemade) and anotehr neighbour has seen her with kentucky and chips put on her walker tray for her to nibble on. I did laugh but know it's not at all funny when mum said she also eats toad in the hole and sucks the sausage as I was so shocked. I couldn't believe anyone could be that ignorant.
Mum says she looks ill and is very small for her age. Apparently she can't eat off of a spoon but Kentucy and chips. I am actually very

Fran1 you are taking this totally the wrong way.

I am just worried for the child's safety, that's all. Anyone that feeds an eight month KFC should be very ashamed of themselves IMO.

I am not Blossomhill, i realise you are not being spiteful and are caring about the child.

I just think people don't need to interfere in others lives, if you knew this person well and it happened constantly then it may be appropriate to say something, but what if the few things that have been witnessed have been one offs?

I'm just thinking from the Mothers point of view, and i wouldn't want others discussing my parenting skills this way. There are things i have fed my child on occasions that i wouldn't want people to make assumptions that i did it all the time.

I remember being with friends on one occasion when someone jokingly offered dd a sip of budweisers, she grabbed the bottle and glugged it like she drank it all the time - never had had it in her life before! But what if someone watched this and made an assumption that dd drinks beer all the time at home ? and thought she'd be helpful and stick a leaflet thru my door about alcoholism for me?

Fran1 - I am not going to do anything at all. I am just worried as she is only baby, eating things that are obviously bad for her. I know that we all do things that others may not agree with but not where little babies are concerned.

An uncle of mine had convulsions when given fish and chips as a baby (by a young babysitter). This happened many years ago and I don't know the details, but I assume it was a reaction to the salt. I don't think you have overreacted and I think you should say something to the mother.

Ooooh Fran1 - I thought it was only my ds who was showing signs of becoming an alcotot!!! dh has been known to give him a sip, only to find himself having a major battle to get the bottle out of ds' hands! I have also been known to give my ds "unsuitable" foods although, as the majority of our meals are homemade, I don't feel that I'm doing him too much harm. However, Blossomhill, it's very refreshing to hear of someone looking out for someone else's child. Are there any other children in the family (i.e. the family of your mum's neighbour)?

WestCountryLass · 25/03/2005 21:26

If they are eating that regulalry then I would be concerned for their salt intake!
