Sheds - yes you heard me - sheds...

Sorry deathly dull question.

Perhaps this should go under the products subject, I dunno...

Anyway:
Sheds - do they come flatpacked or ready assembled?

Do they just get stood up directly onto the lawn or do you have to dig some sort of trench as mini foundations.

Sorry, me and dh are well useless and need assistance even with changing plugs. I thought I'd save myself some time asking these questions before we go on a shed buying mission.

You have to assemble them, and put them on paving stones or concrete otherwise they rot. Had an enjoyable afternoon watching dh and a friend struggle with ours

misdee · 24/03/2005 22:05

u can lay some slabs down on level ground for the shed to sit on.

and they generally come in panels. very easy to do, tho the roof felting is a bit of a b*gger to do.

gets yourself an decent electric screwdriver.

handlemecarefully · 24/03/2005 22:11

Ahh - thank you both. Sounds like a reasonably demanding project for Easter.

Evesmama · 24/03/2005 22:13

can get them here(teesside0 both ready assembled and flat pack..think id rather pay the extra and get someone else to swear and cuss at it

Aero · 24/03/2005 22:15

We paid the extra to have our put up for us - well worth it imo!

handlemecarefully · 24/03/2005 22:20

That's interesting Aero - where did you get it and how much did you have to pay to get it erected?

misdee · 24/03/2005 22:22

oh, you big wuss. its fun putting up a shed. (can you tell i do the DIY here and all power tools are mine pgrin])

AuntyQuated · 24/03/2005 22:22

we bought from a local firm and the price included delivery and erection but you had to have a firm standing

handlemecarefully · 24/03/2005 22:24

Misdee - the cap fits. I am indeed a big wuss.

it is quite easy to do, but i'd say its more a 3-4man/woman job that a 2 person one.

am looking at playhouses for my girls and know it'll be me and helpers putting it up.

nutcracker · 24/03/2005 22:26

B&Q have a shed for £99 you know

handlemecarefully · 24/03/2005 22:26

Sounds like I'll have to throw a shed erecting party (oo err missus!), with food and booze thrown in.

Evesmama · 24/03/2005 22:27

missdee toysrus have some great playhouses and chunky plastic one is half price at min?

aloha · 24/03/2005 22:28

And then you paint it a lovely Farrow& Ball-ish colour.

misdee · 24/03/2005 22:30

evemamas, we're after a wooden two storey house for the girls. with 3 of them its gotta be big

aloha · 24/03/2005 22:32

I'd buy a summerhouse from B&Q - I think children outgrow the little playhouses really early, and the summerhouse will last much, much longer. And don't you grow them big, Misdee?

misdee · 24/03/2005 22:33

lol, dd 1 is very small and petite actually. just dd2 is a big un, and dd3 well we'll wait and see.

aloha · 24/03/2005 22:36

My ds is short and chubby and even he is too tall for the plastic playhouses at three. I dream of having a lovely summerhouse tbh.

misdee · 24/03/2005 22:37

summer house would be better as i could claim it as my sanctuary in the summer evenings

aloha · 24/03/2005 22:38

Ah yes, with a large G&T...
Must go to bed!

misdee · 24/03/2005 22:39

like this one?

aloha · 24/03/2005 22:41

Very nice indeed. Esp with a coat of paint I think. You could have pretty curtains too for the girls. I also want a Cath Kidston tent from Milletts. I like having a girl, it's a good excuse to buy things that you want for yourself

misdee · 24/03/2005 22:43

oh definatly.

i like that one as its cheap lol. and its the right size for my garden.

handlemecarefully · 24/03/2005 22:47

what about this one - just lovely:

I dream of this one

Although perhaps not so great for adults to use too for drinking wine in on a moonlit evening...
