Does your baby wear a snowsuit in a sling?

I have just replaced my Close sling with a Kari Me wrap and having worn it today under my very thin coat I was swealtering! Assuming it doesn't tip down with rain I really think I'll use it without a coat in future. Do you think that means that ds would be ok in just a vest and sleepsuit underneath? He is 6 months old and the wrap covers him completely- only his head pokes out . Obviously I will put a hat on him. What do you dress your dc in when carrying them?

in this weather, in a woven wrap I have ds2 in ordinary clothes and a light jacket (plus warm footwear and hat)

Good question. I have been carrying my DD in a snowsuit in my Moby wrap sling - seems to be the right amount of clothing, but it makes her quite bulky to carry!

spudballoo · 06/12/2008 21:54

No, don't use a snowsuit they are in danger of overheating. Better to keep them in vest, babygro or trousers/top, light jacket or warm cardi plus hat and shoes. Your body gives off masses of heat, plus the sling is another layer....you really shouldn't be using a snowsuit as well.

The bits of them that can get cold are their legs/feet. Those 'Babylegs' leg warmers are brilliant as an extra layer.

Hmmm...well, in just her normal clothing and a sling in this weather my DD would freeze! No amount of body heat is going to keep a baby warm in zero temperatures

littlelamb · 06/12/2008 22:03

Ah, in zero temperatures it would be different but tbh here in Devon it is not terribly cold.

I just put mine in her indoor clothes and into the Moby, with a hat. Then if it's particularly cold I fasten my coat / cardigan over the top.

I sewed a zip to each side of a rectangle of fleece and zipped that into my coat. It can be a bit tricky to find a matching zip , but baby was warm and panel could be zipped out when I went into a warm shop so baby did not over heat. I kept a "baby coat" that had easy to match up zips for years for this purpose.

Definately no need for a snowsuit. Sometimes I put a jumper over a sleepsuit/vest combo if it is really cold but normally DD's were in tights. trousers (to avoid ride up1 am too cheap for babylegs!) vest and jumper with hat. then my coat goes over the top.
And I am in wales, so it is hardly warm here!

In my Calin Bleu, I just pop her in her indoor clothes and fasten my big old fleece coat over her. In my Ergo, she's outside the coat so goes in her snow suit.

I suppose it depends how much is exposed and how cold it is.

I've got a mamajacket

otherwise i put on extra pair of trousers for hangy out legs, and a cardy
agree snowsuit too hot

I find it much easier to dress the baby in indoor clothes and them have him under my coat. That way, as we go in and out of shops or whatever, I can make sure he is the right temperature by just taking off and putting on my coat. The few times he has been worn over a coat (usually by dh) and is dressed in an all in one fleece thing, it is a problem if he falls asleep and we have to go indoors.

I second the babylegs as being wonderful. OUr essential wear for slings is babylegs and really warm hat. My ds3 doesn't own a coat at 4 months old.
