I would say the long sleeved top (saves having to buy the hoodie), the t-shirt and trousers.

My dd hates the combat trouser style as she reckons they are like clown trousers on her.

The leggings are a nightmare too, she needs a big size to get the right leg length but then they are massive round the waist.

Don't bother with the gilet or skort my dd had both and never wore them.

She will need a sash for her badges.

emkana · 01/12/2008 21:47

My dd has trousers, short-sleeved T-shirt, a hoodie and a sash for the badges

gothicmama · 01/12/2008 21:48

teh tshirt, hoodie, trousers and sash seem to be the most popular combo where dd goes and work very well with regard t activities and the weather

bigTillyMint · 01/12/2008 21:48

The dress (with belt and beret) is now in the brownie book as what they wore in the old days!!!

My DD has the T-shirt, leggings (same prob as Deck) and the zip-up sweat-top hoody.

If your DD takes the smallest size, she could have my DD's old T-shirt and leggings which she has finally grown out of

bigTillyMint · 01/12/2008 21:50

Oh, yes, she needs a sash for all the badges you have to sew on, and a dodgy yellow cap

Posey · 01/12/2008 21:51

Dd had trousers, short and long-sleeved top (which she rarely wore as the hall was very hot) and the gillet.
I think we have it all still, in v good condition. Do you want it? You'd be more than welcome

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 01/12/2008 21:55

hmmmm...I thought I had just better check this out as DTDs will be starting after Christmas (I think)....

WTF are cycling shorts for!?!?

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 01/12/2008 22:01

And whyon earth don't the sizes refer to ages...I know they want age 8-9..but what is that in inches

DeckHallsWithFIMBOughsofHolly · 01/12/2008 22:05

You need to go to a John Lewis (or similar stockist) and try the whole lot on - the sizing is very very weird.

gothicmama · 01/12/2008 22:06

not sure I went tostall on market that sells and held them up against her

DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping · 01/12/2008 22:06

Thanks for that tip. Is it the same price in JL as on guides website.

Just looking on ebay and there seem to be odd bits prety cheap.

DoNotsAntlers · 01/12/2008 22:16

but I didn't expect to find this on ebay when I put brownie in as a search term....

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 01/12/2008 22:20

DD has trousers, longsleeved top, hoodie and sash. Also skort and tshirt for summer - all secondhand from neighbour. One tip though: some girls at her pack have the gilet instead of hoodie and they are allowed to sew their badges onto that instead of the sash. Also if you think your DD is likely to be a keen badge-collector it is worth buying the double width sash as the badges cover the narrow one surprisingly quickly - and you so don't want to have to pick them off and resew on a new one.

JanieK · 04/12/2008 21:46

I run a brownie pack and I'd say that nearly all of my girls wear the trousers, long/short sleeved tshirt and the hoodie. Only one of them has the gilet and almost none of them wear the hats anymore. As a leader I'd say that hats are too easy to remove when playing games and I used to end up taking loads home at the end of the night that hadn't been claimed.

She will need a sash and sash pin. If you check on the girlguiding website, you could see if they have a shop near you and you could try on instore with access to all items in all sizes.

FINAL TIP - NAME ON EVERYTHING IF YOU WANT THEM TO HAVE A FULL UNIFORM BROUGHT HOME!!!!

chatee · 04/12/2008 21:55

my dd has the skort,long/short sleeve t.shirt(given to her by a friend)and the hoodie.we too have the wide sash-as i think it's nicer having their badges on the sash as it is a much nicer keepsake than either a washed out gilet or hoodie(when thay are older)
she did wear a pair of plain brown(from national schoolwear centre)tights under the skort during last winter- she has just celebrated her 'brownie birthday' and we got her a pair of brownie tights as a gift
